Position DetailsPosition InformationPosition Title Postdoctoral Fellow, Sexual Health and GenderPosting Number PTAP1677PDepartment/Unit Health & Human PerformanceLocation HalifaxJob Summary & Key ResponsibilitiesThe Sexual Health and Gender (SHaG) research lab is located in the School of Health and Human Performance. The Principal Investigator is Dr. Matthew Numer, who is a Professor in the School of Health and Human Performance at Dalhousie University and cross-appointed to the Gender and Women’s Studies Program. His ongoing research projects include a variety of topics including the sexual and mental health of 2SLGBTQ+ people, technology-facilitated sexualized violence, sex work in the digital age, and sexual health of Indigenous boys and men. For more information on past and ongoing research projects, please visit our website: https://shaglab.ca/Key Responsibilities:Working collaboratively with the SHaG Lab research team, including but not limited to:

  • Primarily conducting qualitative research – knowledge of quantitative and mixed methods research is an additional asset
  • Coordinating and communicating with community-based organizations
  • Monitor financial reports for specific grants and projects, and assist with monitoring for eligible and relevant researchers’ grants
  • Prepare and submit ethics protocols
  • Participate in knowledge translation, for example through national/international conference presentations; writing manuscript(s) (with authorship) for peer-reviewed journal(s); preparation of final reports (both academic and community reports); creatively presenting findings; involvement in community forums.
  • Grant development and submission
  • Coordinating grant development activities amongst team members, with focused contributions to budget development, letters of support, submission processes, and ethics applications.
Qualifications/Requirements of PositionA PhD in health, sociology, or a related field with approximately 2-3 years of relevant experience, preferably in a post-secondary institution (or equivalent combination of training and experience) is required.Demonstrated experience in project management, qualitative and quantitative methods, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and manuscript writing/publications is an asset. Knowledge of the following qualitative and quantitative data collection/analysis software SPSS or R, online survey platforms (e.g., Opinio, Qualtrics, REDCap, SurveyMonkey), and NVIVO. Demonstrated skills in critical thinking, research development, communication, and basic accounting are required. Must be a demonstrated problem-solver who is able to work independently under time constraints. Knowledge of land-based methodologies and other research methods from a Two-Eyed seeing perspective will be an asset because the successful candidate may have the opportunity to assist with collecting and analyzing data in the field at various Indigenous gatherings and activities.Salary Range/Pay Rate $45,000 - $64,796 (commensurate with qualifications and experience)Additional InformationDalhousie University commits to achieving inclusive excellence through continually championing equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
