Job Description

Project Manager, Carbon Mitigation (Developments), Corporate Office, Halifax, NSKillam Apartment REIT (TSX:KMP.UN), is a growth-oriented real estate investment trust which owns, manages and develops multi-family residential properties in Atlantic Canada, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia.Killam is focused on maximizing its value and long-term profitability through reduced operating costs, increased earnings, expanding the portfolio through acquisitions, and developing high-quality properties in its core markets. We are seeking a Project Manager to join our Development Team at our Corporate location in Halifax.The successful applicant should have an in-depth knowledge of project management, electrical systems, renewable energy, building systems and energy use. This position offers a unique opportunity with project management, engineering, business analysis and sustainable building practices in a single role where you can truly make a difference.Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, consultants, property managers, maintenance staff, and power utilities to execute carbon mitigation projects; including electric vehicle charging stations, rooftop solar PV installations and trial and evaluation of new building technologies.
  • Identify and help pursue all necessary approvals from authorities.
  • Identify and prioritize future projects with management and through collaboration with the Operations team.
  • Produce a basic business case for each opportunity and communicate the business case to management to obtain formal approval.
  • Schedule and budget projects.
  • Forecast monthly project costs, identify issues, analyze schedules, and provide progress reports to management.
  • Perform site visits to verify project progress, commissioning, and completion.
  • Ensure contractors have proper insurance coverage and safety programs in place.
  • Measure and verify the results of projects.
  • Complete greenhouse gas calculations and track utility consumption before and after projects are implemented.
  • Assist in the implementation and tracking of warranties and maintenance contracts.
  • Help pursue Green Building certifications for existing buildings in the portfolio.
  • Apply for rebates and grants from the Government of Canada, Utilities and Provincial Funding Programs.
Qualifications:
  • Experience in project management.
  • Understanding of renewable energy systems as well as electrical and mechanical building systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent. An engineering technology diploma with relevant project management experience will also be considered.
  • 3-5 years relevant experience.
  • Clear, concise and professional communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft excel and other Microsoft Office packages.
  • Certified Energy Manager, LEED AP, BOMA-HP and other designations relevant to sustainability are sought after but not a requirement.
