Our 6,000 faculty and staff foster a vibrant, purpose-driven community, that celebrated 200 years of academic excellence in 2018.Job SummaryThe Health Innovation Sandbox is one of five ‘sandboxes’ funded by the Province of Nova Scotia at Dalhousie to promote innovation and entrepreneurship. A collaborative endeavor across the Faculties of Dentistry, Health and Medicine at Dalhousie University, the Health Innovation Sandbox broadly addresses issues related to health and wellness. Its mandate is to develop and deliver curricular and extra-curricular education and training at all academic levels in these Faculties, focused on identifying real-world problems, and developing and implementing science-based solutions through commercialization, knowledge mobilization or other business models. Pulse, the Health Innovation Sandbox complements those established in the Faculties of Science (Surge), Engineering (idea), Agriculture (Cultiv8) and Computer Science (ShiftKey Labs). Reporting to the Associate Dean of Research for Health, the Sandbox Manager is responsible for running the day-to-day activities of the sandbox, managing programming, and engaging the public and other stakeholders such as students, industry and other universities.Key Responsibilities

  • Independent project management, including planning, organizing, and executing events and programming, working with partners to develop topics and participants, preparing materials for activities, and providing on-site assistance during program delivery.
  • Work closely with provincial Sandboxes, faculties across Dalhousie and other Nova Scotia institutions, and Dal Innovates programs to ensure effective design, communication, and engagement for all events and programming.
  • Develop processes and mechanisms to engage students, industry partners, and other stakeholders, and effectively measure program development and delivery.
  • Provide strategic advice and expertise to students in how to collaborate, create, communicate and problem solve using technology.
  • Administration of the sandbox, including managing finances and budgeting.
NoteThis position is a one year term, with the possibility of extension with continued external funding. Occasional work on evenings and weekends is required.The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.Dalhousie’s vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination. However, health and safety risks to our community will continue to be monitored and a vaccine mandate may be reinstated if necessary.QualificationsUndergraduate degree, plus approximately three years’ experience is required, with preference given to applicants with experience in innovation/entrepreneurship programs and/or high-growth entrepreneurial activities within the healthcare industry including biotech, pharma, diagnostics, medtech, digital health, or healthcare delivery. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. A Masters in a health-related discipline is strongly preferred. A high degree of organizational skill, interpersonal acumen and problem solving ability is required to provide oversight in balancing the multiple priorities, partners, facilities and programs. Excellent oral and written communication skills, and an enthusiasm for working with and encouraging students is required. Desirable skills include social media, website maintenance, and financial administration. Must be able to lead effectively and direct different cross-functional programs and projects of varied sizes and types concurrently.
