ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Director Quality Improvement & Safety the Quality Improvement & Safety Leader will provide leadership within NSH’s overall provincial and zone programs for quality, safety, accreditation, risk management; and responsibility to implement all aspects of comprehensive quality, patient safety, patient engagement, risk and accreditation plans to achieve the best outcomes in health care program and service delivery, safe care and continuous improvement to meet or exceed all accreditation requirements.The QIS Leader supports a focus on leading the design, implementation and evaluation of strategic and tactical initiatives to support the development of NS Health capability and capacity to deploy a quality improvement approach to test changes, sustain, spread and scale improvement.
  • Collaboratively design and manage the delivery of quality improvement structures, processes and activities that build QI capacity and capability tailored to support the successful implementation of provincial / zone improvement priorities
  • Participate in and collaboratively implement the delivery of a NS Health Improvement Coaching Network
  • Lead the local development, management, and evaluation the delivery of key QI processes and structures
  • Provide QI coaching support to local administrative and physician leaders, patient family advisors and front line staff, as well as embedded quality leaders and QIS colleagues
  • Inform and support the continuous improvement of NS Health core QI training, resources and tools to ensure alignment with best and emerging evidence
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across NS Health and other partners to support the successful implementation of the QI and Culture strategy
  • Lead/support priority provincial / zone QI initiatives
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree from a health care profession program/discipline
  • Masters level preparation in a clinical health discipline, Health Services Administration, Business Administration or a related program an asset
  • Minimum of 5 years quality and patient safety leadership experience, which includes 5 years of relevant clinical experience in a health care environment including expertise to critically review health records as part of the quality review process preferred
  • Appropriate licensure/membership in professional organizations
  • Certificate or training related to quality, patient safety, risk management, or related program an asset
  • Certified Health Executive is an asset
  • Experience in planning and implementing a variety of strategic activities related to accreditation, safety, quality improvement, risk management, and patient engagement, provided across several locations with multiple partners and stakeholders and while ensuring appropriate confidentiality
  • Experience engaging teams, leaders, medical staff, clinicians, patients/clients and stakeholders in a collaborative, participatory manner
Qualifications Continued
  • Experience and demonstrated expertise with data management, data analysis and statistical manipulation; excellent report writing and presentation skills, presenting results in a meaningful manner specific to the target audience
  • Excellent knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation and graphics software required
  • Experience in project management and program evaluation an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability of independent decision making, creativity, self-direction, motivation, change management and team building/ leadership skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred
Hours of Work
  • Permanent Full-time Position; 75 hours bi-weekly
