Bringing together individuals with diverse backgrounds, talents, and expertise, our FSTs are vital to making our Company stronger.Your OpportunityThe Innovation Office, Digital Technology & Innovation, Geospatial Technology Program Group, has a career opening involving the application of reality capture principles and methods, research & development, new product research & testing, incubation, standards development, and business planning of remote sensing ideas.The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, highly interested in the application of new reality capture technologies and a critical thinker. The candidate will become a member of the Innovation Office while being accessible to project teams to support project work as needed.THIS REMOTE POSITION CAN BE LOCATED ANYWHERE ACROSS NORTH AMERICAYour Key ResponsibilitiesUnmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)Provide leadership, direction, and insight in all areas of reality capture, inclusive of the three key steps: capture, compute, and create.Stay abreast of new technologies related to reality capture and evaluate for potential business use.Provide leadership around UAS.Be knowledgeable of new technologies related to UAS.Lead research and development of UAS technologies.Determine application of UAS to business line use.Develop documentation of UAS governance, standards, checklists, best practices and hardware/software standards.Drive the usage of UAS technologies for business ideation, related design and innovation.Serve as the liaison between Stantec Pilots and the UAS Governance committee.Track annual Stantec pilot hours, hardware and insurance compliance.Collect, process, analyze and format imagery and point cloud data acquired from UAS, aircraft, satellites or ground based platforms.Direct, assign and supervise UAS tasks of other employees as needed.Mentor and provide UAS expertise to less experienced team members.Maintain knowledge of developments in the field through literature and attending conferences.Collect supporting data to corroborate UAS data analyses, such as field survey data or reported data streams.Monitoring the quality of information gathered.Development of new analytical techniques.Develop automated routines to correct for the presence of image distorting artifacts.Lead a UAS community of practice.Consult on UAS solutions provided to our clients.3D Laser ScanningProvide leadership around 3D Laser Scanning.Be knowledgeable of new technologies related to 3D Laser Scanning.Lead research and development of 3D Laser Scanning technologies.Determine application of 3D Laser Scanning to business line use.Develop documentation of 3D Laser Scanning governance, standards, best practices and hardware/software standards.Drive the usage of 3D Laser Scanning technologies for business ideation, related design and innovation.Collect, process, analyze and format imagery and point cloud data acquired from ground-based platforms.Direct, assign and supervise 3D Laser Scanning tasks of other employees as needed.Mentor and provide 3D Laser Scanning expertise to less experienced team members.Maintain knowledge of developments in the field through literature and attending conferences.Collect supporting data to corroborate 3D Laser Scanning data analyses, such as field survey data or reported data streams.Monitoring the quality of information gathered.Development of new analytical techniques.Develop automated routines to correct for the presence of image distorting artifacts.Lead a 3D Laser Scanning community of practice.Consult on 3D Laser Scanning solutions provided to our clients.Business DevelopmentParticipate in strategic planning for geospatial technologies.Lead/assist with marketing and business development of Stantec’s reality capture services to internal and external clients.Publish blogs, white papers and participate in research on reality capture.QualificationsYour Capabilities and CredentialsSignificant experience related to UAS, 3D Laser Scanning, LiDAR, or Geomatics (geodesy, geospatial, geomatics). Strong survey background is preferred.Demonstrated experience and familiarity in working with 3-D geospatial data, point clouds, and development of digital models.Experience with imagery acquisition, photogrammetry, orthophotos, and registration.Knowledge of standard BIM procedures, Revit models, mesh model development.Familiarity with a reality capture hardware such as; FARO Scene, GeoSLAM, Skydio 2, Phantom, Mavic or eBee.Experience using reality capture and processing software such as; Pix4D, Bentley Context Capture, EdgeWise, Sketchfab, Potree, Cintoo, Drone2Map, Civil3D, and ESRI.Knowledge of 2D (imagery) and 3D geospatial data exploitation methods is also desired.Experience with software packages for research projects.Geospatial data sources, cartography, and geographic concepts.Data management, governance.Defining workflow processes and leading implementation teams.Applying critical thinking skills to develop innovative solutions.Ability to direct and execute highly complex or specialized projects.Attention to detail.Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, and clients, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.Ability to anticipate and identify client needs and synthesize them into concepts and solutions.Presenting to external audiences.Project Management Principles.Ability to effectively organize, plan, prioritize, and manage time and competing priorities.Education and ExperienceA Bachelor’s Degree in Geomatics, Survey, Remote Sensing, GIS, Geology, Geography, Engineering, or a related field and 10 - 15 years of experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Master’s degree preferred.Possess an FAA Part 107 UAS License or Transport Canada Drone Pilot Certificate or similar for other geographies.Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
