Our 6,000 faculty and staff foster a vibrant, purpose-driven community, that celebrated 200 years of academic excellence in 2018.Job SummaryThe Department of Biology is within the Faculty of Science and offers both undergraduate and graduate programs. Biology offers the widest range of courses in Atlantic Canada and have a number of biology and marine biology programs. Reporting to the Administrative Officer, the Receptionist provides reception and office support services for Department of Biology.Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a good working knowledge of policies and procedures within the department in order to receive and assist visitors.
  • Monitor, respond and redirect departmental emails, answer phones and incoming mails.
  • Assist and coordinate departmental communications and events.
  • Maintain room bookings for classrooms, meeting spaces and lounge and coordinate several evaluations that occur during the year like instructor evaluations etc.
  • Maintain Departmental office equipment and inventory supplies.
  • Perform further related duties as required.
NoteDue to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.Dalhousie’s vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination. However, health and safety risks to our community will continue to be monitored and a vaccine mandate may be reinstated if necessary.QualificationsBusiness/Office Administrative diploma with approximately one to two years of related work experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Outlook and Excel) is required. Solid client-service, teamwork and communication skills are required. Must demonstrate excellent record-keeping and time management. Demonstrated ability to work independently in a busy office environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
