Job PostingHalifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is inviting applications for casual positions of Recreation Program Instructor in the Recreation Programming division of Parksamp; Recreation. The Program Instructor could lead a variety of programs (eg: soccer, basketball, roller skating, gymnastics, painting, drawing, yoga, fitness, etc.). The instructor must plan and teach recreational programs to participants of all ages. (Aquatic and Skating jobs are a separate posting)This posting will be used to create an Eligibility List. Current and upcoming vacancies that are not filled internally will be filled from this Eligibility List, which will be effective for three months and may be extended as required.For more information on recreation programs, please visit our website: http://www.halifax.ca/rec/.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for developing a specific program plan;
  • Responsible for greeting participants, leading activities, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of participants, organizing equipment and supplies, preparing for activities;
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience working or volunteering with preschoolers/children/youth/seniors in a recreational setting (if applicable);
  • Applicants must have current certification in Emergency First Aid and Level C CPR
  • Applicants must complete screening through a Criminal Records Check and Child Abuse Registry if applicable
  • Applicants must be willing to obtain HIGH FIVE training and WHMIS training if applicable.
Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.Please note - Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer #39;s discretion. Interviews, testing, and in-person recruitment activities are being conducted in adherence with current COVID-19 Public Health protocols.COMPETENCIES: Communication, Customer Service, Organization and Planning, Risk Management, Teamwork and Cooperation, Valuing Diversity, Initiative, Decision Making.WORK STATUS: Casual/Seasonal - September 2023 to June 2024HOURS OF WORK: Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule.SALARY: Non-Union casual wage, dependent on specific program.WORK LOCATION: Various Community Recreation Centre locations throughout HRM. Bedford/Hammonds Plains Community Centre, Captain William Spry Community Centre, Chocolate Lake Community Centre, Citadel Community Centre, Cole Harbour Recreation Centre, Dartmouth North Community Centre, Findlay Community Centre, George Dixon Community Centre, Gordon R.
