Position DetailsPosition InformationPosition Title Research Associate / Data AnalystDepartment/Unit Earth & Environmental SciencesResearch Project The Dalhousie Hydrology and Climate Change Research GroupLocation HalifaxPosting Number GP95-22Employee Group Grant-PaidPosition Type TemporaryDuration of Contract (if applicable) 6 months, with possibility of extensionEmployment Type Full TimeFull-time Equivalency (FTE) 1.0Salary $40,250 - $52,500 per annum, prorated to $20,125 - $26,250 based on duration of contract (35 hours per week)About the OrganizationThe overall goal of the Dalhousie Hydrology and Climate Change Research Group is to identify how the river water quality and health in Nova Scotia is changing in response to acidification recovery and climate change and to identify priority actions for watershed restoration.Job SummaryReporting to the Principal Investigator, the Research Associate will support the data analysis and reporting of research on trends in acidification recovery of Nova Scotia rivers.Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble and organize diverse sets of environmental data into a database.
  • Perform and document quality control / quality assurance on scientific data.
  • Organize, review, document, archive, update and graph/visualize scientific data.
  • Analyze data to detect trends and their significance using non-parametric statistics tests for time series analysis, trend detection methods. Assist with scientific reporting by performing data analysis reporting.
  • Conduct linear mixed modelling to identify fixed and random effects on environmental variables.
  • Contribute to the internal and external communications, promotion and visibility of the lab.

However, health and safety risks to our community will continue to be monitored and a vaccine mandate may be reinstated if necessary.Required QualificationsGraduate degree in data science, statistics, hydrology or related field, with a minimum of 1 year related experience working with complex data sets, linear mixed modelling and time series analysis is required. Experience using geospatial mapping (ArcGIS) is required. Proficiency in a coding language for the purposes of data wrangling and cleaning, e.g. R or Python, is required. Ability to work as an effective team member with excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills are required.
