Our 6,000 faculty and staff foster a vibrant, purpose-driven community, that celebrated 200 years of academic excellence in 2018.Job SummaryThe Department of Community Health and Epidemiology (CH&E) is part of the Faculty of Medicine and comprises approximately 22 faculty based in Nova Scotia and Saint John NB, 4 administrative staff, 80-100 research personnel and 4-8 postdoctoral fellows. CH&E is a research-intensive and academic department within the Faculty of Medicine. Reporting to the Department Administrator, the Research Coordinator is responsible for supporting activities related to research within the department.Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a sound working knowledge of department, faculty and pertinent university policies, procedures, regulations, research activities, deadlines etc., in order to act as the principal contact person with finance inquiries and assist faculty members with routine financial administrative matters.
  • Develop and maintain spreadsheets/ reports for funded research grants and research ethics board applications to collate a database to inform faculty members about what makes a successful grant proposal and REB application.
  • Assist faculty and research staff with formatting grant applications. Track and prepare regular financial reports for PIs as directed and regularly review grant accounts.
  • Coordinate and maintain internal and external communications regarding departmental research activities, as well as assist with developing and delivering department-led research events/ conferences.
  • Assist with the recruitment, hiring process and onboarding of research staff and prepare timesheets and exception payment forms for research staff.
  • Coordinate arrangements for meetings, prepare and distribute agenda and any additional items required in consultation with the chair. Record and transcribe minutes—follow up on meeting decisions as appropriate.
NoteThe successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.Dalhousie’s vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination.   • Business/Office Administration program with approximately three to five years’ related experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Must have excellent communication and writing skills, as well as the ability to be a team-player who can adjust priorities under changing demands and conditions.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, problem solving and to seek information when needed.
  • Computer proficiency and accurate attention to detail.
  • Strong financial skills or numeracy.
