Join a diverse team of innovators, collaborators and creative thinkers today.The Canadian Centre for Vaccinology (CCfV) is Canadas first and only fully integrated collaborative vaccine research facility spanning basic science, clinical studies, and social sciences. Focused on infectious diseases and vaccine research, CCfV has conducted hundreds of academic and industry-sponsored clinical trials; surveillance studies; epidemiological studies; and social science studies. CCfV clinical facilities include a 7,000 sq ft full-containment Vaccine Challenge Unit (VCU) that is specifically designed for controlled human infection studies. The VCU is the first of only two such units in Canada. In the Research Manager position, you will be responsible to coordinate and supervise research employees in collaboration with the Principal Investigator (PI).Responsibilities to include:

  • Directs and supervises research employees in day-to-day operations and procedures.
  • Develops and monitors study timelines.
  • Acts as a resource and confers with the Principal Investigator (PI) and sponsor representatives on study progress, compliance and protocols.
  • Ensures all reporting of patient safety incidents, such as Serious Adverse Events (SAE) or protocol deviations.
  • Prepares documents for submission to the Research Ethics Board (REB) for study approval and closure.
  • Ensures adequate financial support from sponsor to conduct study in collaboration with PI.
  • Prepares study budgets and manages funds in coordination with PI, HR, and Finance.
  • Monitors study expenditures with detailed reconciliation of monthly statements.
  • Interviews, selects, and hires research employees for the department in consultation with the PI and HR, Research & Innovation.
  • Provides ongoing leadership to research employees and manages performance.
  • Ensures completion of probationary assessment forms and performance appraisals.
  • Assesses ways to improve the functioning of the research team in a proactive and retrospective manner.
  • Develops policies and procedures to ensure quality and timely submission of data and to ensure the team is functioning efficiently and effectively.
  • Ensures study team compliance with study procedures, protocol, scheduling and preparation for monitor visits.
  • Ensures study team compliance with standard operating procedures and policies through annual reviews.
  • Evaluates equitable assignment of employee’s duties and responsibilities on an ongoing basis.
  • Monitors participant recruitment, and develops and oversees implementation of procedures to increase recruitment.
  • Ensures productivity and quality of work in collaboration with Research Quality, R&I.
  • Ensures research study data is collected, maintained, and reported within the department.
  • Ensures employees within the department are providing safe and comprehensive care to study participants.
QualificationsKNOWLEDGE
  • Business degree, business diploma, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education, training and/or degree in a related health profession (e.g. Nurse, Respiratory Therapist, Dietician, Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer, etc)
  • Registered Nurse would be considered an asset
  • Financial background an asset
  • Formal management training/courses
  • CCRP (Certified Clinical Research Professional) or equivalent an asset.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Management/leadership experience; ability to lead a team in a dynamic, fast paced work environment
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a relevant health profession and/or research an asset
  • Clinical experience in the relevant division preferred
  • Proficiency in specialized technology programs related to the study
  • Knowledge of basic accounting concepts
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, coaching and teaching skills
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills
  • Effective research and analytical thinking skills
  • Strong negotiation, conflict resolution and rapport-building skills
  • Ability to work well independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint), email and internet.
Hours of WorkLong assignment, full-time position, 75 hrs bi-weeklyBeginning February 22, 2022 with an expected end date of August 7, 2023
