Reporting to the Assistant Director of Security Services, the Residence Community Safety Manager has a significant student centric leadership role in defining the delivery of an evolving security service at Dalhousie University Student Residence facilities as well as developing and delivering behaviour management and crisis intervention programs with the goal of improving student safety and emergency response.Key Responsibilities

  • Interact with internal and external stakeholders on a variety of student safety issues, support and promote of pro-social behaviours and provide increased accountability and response to anti-social activity.
  • Lead behaviour management and personal safety initiatives to increase awareness, share resources, promote safe practices, and intentionally position Security Services as an active and collaborative partner in maintaining a healthy and safe residence community.
  • Analyze datapoints arising from security’s Perspective database & Residence Life’s database of reports for connections and themes. Serve as the content expert for security tips, and prevention/reduction strategies, facilitation of staff training/awareness sessions, and assist where appropriate, with Residence Code of Conduct investigations.
  • Act as consultant from Security Services and dedicated liaison for Residence facilities for the Planning and Projects Units when reviewing or recommending security practices, procedures, and technology.
  • Assist in the investigation of complex files related to student behavior impacting the residence community. Ensure accurate information is shared with relevant stakeholders in a timely manner to ensure comprehensive post-incident student support.
  • Responsible for the creation of weekly residence specific Operation Plans for the coordination of Security Services staff, which consists of planning, directing, and monitoring of all shift activities according to operational requirements.
