Job Description

Security ManagerPage Property Management is an industry leader in the development, construction and management of commercial and residential properties; primarily in the Halifax region. With an existing portfolio of over 5 million square feet (which includes the iconic Nova Centre), Page continues to expand its portfolio by investing in exciting projects. We are committed to attracting highly talented people, who share our passion for the industry, and commitment to provide exceptional tenant service.Page has an exciting opening for a Security Manager, for our professional security team at the state-of-the-art Nova Centre in Downtown Halifax. This one-million-square-foot mixed development features: retail space, a convention centre, commercial space, a hotel, restaurants and a 2 level parkade - making for an exciting place to work.The Security Manager will be responsible to manage the day-to-day-security services of the Nova Centre -ensuring an efficient and effective operation - while acting as a working member of the security team.Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day management of security team members - daily coaching and mentoring, goal setting, conducting annual performance reviews, implementing supplementary training as needed, etc.
  • Creating schedules for security team - ensuring optimally staffed based on building needs, while also ensuring an effective and efficient use of resources.
  • Executing the Companys training and onboarding program for all new staff - conducting initial training and ensuring proper documentation has been completed and forwarded as needed;
  • Acting as escalation point of contact for serious or complex security matters, as needed;
  • Approving staff hours and submitting bi-weekly to payroll in accordance with deadlines.
  • Ensuring security policies, procedures, and policies are being followed. Implementing and creating new policies as needed;
  • Leading special investigations as required;
  • Acting as liaison between security and other departments (internally and externally) - ensuring appropriate flow of communication and maintaining positive relationships with key stakeholders;
  • Proactively taking steps to create a safe and secure working environment for all staff, tenants, and visitors.
  • Acting as working member of the security team (i.e.,conducting patrols and inspections, monitoring video surveillance, identifying and responding to responding to emergency situations, ensuring smooth flow of pedestrian and vehicle traffic; providing accurate reports of incidents; removing authorized or disruptive individuals from the premises, etc.)
  • Providing recommendations for improvements to security operations and forwarding any building safety or security concerns.
  • Acting as ambassador of the Company - portraying a positive, professional image at all times.
  • Creating a culture of safety, ensuring the Companys OHS Program is being followed;
  • Coming in after hours as needed to attend to security matters or provide support.
Qualifications:Education and Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a security role, with experience in a supervisory or management position;
  • Completion of post-secondary education in a related field is strongly preferred (equivalent experience may be considered)
Skills and Knowledge:
  • In-depth understanding of security practices and principles.
  • Ability to act decisively and effectively problem solve in challenging or stressful situations;
  • Keen attention to detail;
  • Customer service-centric approach; collaborative mindset.
  • In depth understanding of de escalation tactics;
  • Proven ability to effectively manage, motivate and coach a team.
