LogisticsJob Title: Senior Assurance ProfessionalBusiness Unit: Emera Safety and EnvironmentLocation: Halifax, NSType of Employment: Regular, Full TimeClosing Date: January 28, 2024Reference Number: 2023-2371The OpportunityWe are looking for a Senior Assurance Professional to join our Safety and Environment team. Reporting to the Director, Environment and Assurance you will join a team of professionals at our Head Office location where we offer you a hybrid work option.Key elements of this role include:

  • Execute all elements of the corporate safety and environmental audit program across Emera;
  • This will include, but not be limited to, annual audit program planning including the audit scheduling and formation of audit teams, communication with auditees and audit clients, participating in and leading various audits and compliance checks within Emera and its subsidiaries, finalizing audit reports and maintaining systems for audit records.
  • Liaising with subsidiaries to support the development, implementation and continual improvement of their assurance initiatives;
  • Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls to mitigate risks and assess compliance with corporate and affiliate safety and environmental policiesamp; procedures, standards, programs as well as provincial, federalamp; state laws and applicable safety and environmental regulations;
  • Provide recommendations and advice to senior management and assist the Director in preparing the Emera Executive and Board reports;
  • Support the maintenance and development of Emera #39;s management systems to enhance performance, fulfill compliance obligations and complete relevant objectives. This will involve leading various continual improvement initiatives; working with Emera affiliates on various aspects of management systems, improving performance; assisting with implementation/maintenance of affiliate management systems; and assisting with the preparation of various company internal and external reports;
  • Using detailed knowledge of safety and environmental legislation, various legislative initiatives and industry best practice and determining how these could impact Emera operations and Emera #39;s management systems;
  • Collaborate with the Safetyamp; Environment team in the implementation and operation of the Cority Safety and Environment Digital Platform;
  • You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing all Occupational Healthamp; Safety Rules and Regulations and the requirements of the Emera Safety Program.

  • Bachelor #39;s degree in Science, Occupational Healthamp; Safety, Engineering related discipline(s);
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in safety, environment, compliance and/or auditing;
  • Strong critical thinking skills, focusing on collaboration and#39;win-win #39; outcomes;
  • Strong project management skills and a proven track record to deliver results;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated leadership and track record of collaboration with various stakeholders;
  • Electricity or Gas utility (or equivalent) operational experience is considered an asset;
  • A strong understanding of Quality Management Systems (ISO 45001, ISO 14001) and auditing techniques (e.g., ISO 19011) is considered an asset;
  • Other combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
A valid driver #39;s license is required. Travel to Emera locations in Canada, US and the Caribbean will be a necessary part of the successful candidate #39;s work routine.
