Job Description

About the Dalhousie Student Union (DSU): The DSU represents the collective voice of over 18,000 students in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The DSU advocates for student rights, builds community on campus through events, supports over 300 societies, and provides focused services to foster a supportive and positive student experience.Overview:Reports to: Societies & Programming CoordinatorTerm: August 2022 – April 2023Compensation: 5-10 hours a week at $13.55/hourThe Sexton Campus Coordinator should be passionate and dedicated to bettering student life on Sexton Campus. They will work closely with students and societies on Sexton and collaborate with students on all campuses. The Sexton Campus coordinator will work with the DSU to create programming, student initiatives and improve campus supports on Sexton.Responsibilities:

  • Managing and maintaining the day-to-day operations of the DSU Sexton Office.
  • Ensure all DSU resources are readily available in the DSU Sexton Office.
  • Hold DSU office hours each week to support students and Sexton societies.
  • Coordinate with the DSU offices in the Student Union Building around promotions, services, events, and DSU programs and resources.
  • Work with Societies & Programming Coordinator and Member Service Assistants for member and society-related services, including supporting Sexton society ratifications.
  • Attending meetings of the Engineering Council, and relevant meetings of Architecture and Planning societies, to bring forward updates and hear student concerns.
  • Compiling a contact list for major sexton societies and regularly communicating with them about DSU events, programming, updates, and news.
  • Serving as the liaison between students on Sexton Campus and the Executive Committee.
  • Acting as a liaison and support service to The DSU Council Engineering Rep, in making decisions, gathering input from Sexton constituencies, and other councillor tasks.
  • Conduct surveys, forums, drop-boxes and other forms of feedback collection of Sexton students
  • Collaborate with different members of the Executive Committee on outreach, communication, sexton-specific events, etc.
  • Must create and submit a progress report bi-weekly.
Requirements:
  • Member of the Dalhousie Student Union
  • Must be able to demonstrate a connection to the Sexton campus.
  • Experience with events and outreach initiatives considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Dalhousie Student Union considered an asset
  • Must be able to work remotely until otherwise is directed.
