Job Description

It takes skills, dedication, patience, and the right opportunities.We #39;re seeking a Sous Chef to join the team at Dalhousie University #39;s Howe Hall! As the Sous Chef, you will report to the Food Service Manager with a dotted line to the Executive Chef and be responsible for supporting the Food Service Manager and Executive Chef in providing culinary leadership in the planning, production, administration and management of a high-quality food service at Dalhousie University.Just like you, we #39;re passionate about everything we do, and we #39;ll make sure you have the right growth opportunities to reach the peak of your career.Job Responsibilities

  • In the absence of the Executive Chef, plan, direct and guide culinary team in the execution of daily food service in a manner that meets/exceeds operational and financial targets, working alongside front line staff when necessary
  • Leads and monitors Cooks and Food Service Workers #39; adherence to all Aramark operating standards and legislated standards within the component including company policy and procedure
  • Remain compliant with regards to all OH amp;S policies, procedures and required activities (i.e. updated safety boards, inventory on First Aid Kits, proper chemical handling, monthly safety talks etc.)
  • Assists with onboarding, coaching and developing culinary staff
  • Assist with weekly inventory and product ordering
  • Standardizes production recipes to ensure consistent quality
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • 5+ years #39; experience in culinary field required
  • 2+ years #39; experience in leadership role required
  • Culinary degree or Red Seal considered an asset
  • Strong relationship building skills with clients and customers
  • Experience with food and labour costing
  • Assertive, professional and positive with ability to lead in a stressful environment
  • Must be flexible, as some evenings and weekends may be required
  • Must be able to work independently with limited supervision
  • Requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling of up to 25 lbs.
