We are currently looking to fill the position of Project Cost Specialist.We are getting ready to lead the largest transformation in the history of our company to meet government’s climate commitments to phase out coal and reach 80% renewable energy by 2030. Since 2005, we have achieved a 41% reduction in CO2 emissions and a 43% reduction in coal use. As we continue our path to 2030, we are looking for like-minded people that share our passion for cleaner energy to help us build a greener economy.Accountabilities:The Project Cost Specialist will be responsible for leading the preparation of the Project cost estimates/forecasts starting with the concept phase. The position shall be responsible for developing and implementing the overall project estimate plan to ultimately prepare the Owners cost estimates required for Project Sanction and leading the team on cost management activities throughout the life of the project.Key accountabilities include:

  • Develop and implement the overall estimate plan to prepare the project estimate required following the stage gated process and establishment of the control budget.
  • Review and provide analysis of estimate plans prepared by Owners consultants and contractors.
  • Prepare screening level cost estimates to support the evaluation of various business planning activities.
  • Review and validate construction key estimate parameters recommended by Owners consultants and various contractors, including construction fleet, productivity rates, material pricing, etc.
  • Work with the project teams engineering, planning and construction resources to review and validate construction sequence and methodology proposed by Owners consultants and various contractors.
  • Assist in developing a recommendation for Estimate Contingency, Management Reserve and Escalation in conjunction with the Project Controls Team and other consultants (i.e. risk).
  • Responsible for the initial development of Capital Project cost scenario plans that feed into a greater economic analysis model that provides the basis of strategic direction on projects and how this aligns with the overall organization.
  • Report on Earned Value (EV) and Cost Performance Index (CPI) for project initiatives.
  • Develop multi-year strategic plans for the project.
  • Report on project variances monthly.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of PMWeb Project Management Software – including aiding the project team through the discovery, implementation, configuration, and system acceptance phases, to daily use.
You will be responsible for personal safety and that of co-workers by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.Skills, Capabilities and Experience:As the successful candidate, you must have a University degree from an accredited post-secondary institute and/or a recognized project management certification or equivalent experience plus a minimum of 7 years experience in a relevant field.
  • Solid understanding of, and experience with; project planning, reporting and estimating/cost control methodology.
  • Familiarity with AACE principles.
  • Able to work on multiple projects at once while maintaining priorities.
  • Excellent communication and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, attentive to detail.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Experience with Oracle, PM Software and other business tools considered an asset.
