As a subject matter expert, works with developers and other users to help them with any SQL scripting, database connectivity related questions. Takes care of user management. Well versed with SQL performance tuning, database sizing and hosting the databases both on cloud and on premises. Eager and willing to learn new database technologies and share their knowledge within their team as well as other teams.Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Implement automated process to improve database system reliability
• Troubleshoot complex systems to identify bottlenecks (SQL, IO, hardware, query related, etc); Resolve database related issues.
• Perform database migrations
• Implement, monitor, upgrade, and administer database platforms including performance tuning, backup, restore, install and decommissioning activities
• Continuously explore new and creative ways to take on complex data-related problems
• Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.
• Participate in design, development, and implementation of complex databases, often using new technologies to contribute to overall system design, architecture, security, scalability, reliability, and performance of applications
• Collaborate with high-performing teams and individuals throughout the business to transform and improve existing data solutions
• Viewed as the subject matter expert for the team. Manages multiple, moderately complex projects and direct activities of a team related to special initiatives or operations.
• Ensure data is distributed in a timely and accurate manner
• Make data discoverable and accessible to business users
• Work under minimal supervision, with general guidance from more seasoned consultants or managers.
• Exercise judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion for obtaining results.

Requirements

• BS/BA degree or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of experience as MS SQL Database Administrator
• Proficiency with open-source databases such as MariaDB and PostgreSQL
• Proficiency in installing and configuring complex database management system environments, creating and maintaining databases as well as backup and recovery
• Background in IT infrastructure, including systems or network administration
• Proficient knowledge of programing and scripting languages, including Python, Javascript, SQL, .NET, PowerShell, and/or TSQL
• Familiar with data warehousing, data modeling, and data transformation.
• Have strong verbal and written communication skills. Communication with applications and within projects is critical.
• Familiar with Agile frameworks

Desirable Skills but not Required

• Proficient in ETL technologies.
• Understanding of the software development lifecycle, including Agile development methodology
• Experience with sourcing and modeling data from application APIs
• Experience with DBaaS offerings (AWS RDS, Azure Databases, etc.)
• Hands on Experience on Database High Availability solutions like Log-Shipping, Database Mirroring, Replication, Clustering and AlwaysON.
• Using PerfMon/Profiler to solve low-level SQL Server bottlenecks like Dead Locks/Long running queries.
• Microsoft SQL certification is a plus
