IG is hosted by Dalhousie University, located in Halifax, NS.The IG community is made up of researchers, scientists, community groups, and individuals from Canada and around the world who share an interest on the human and model genomes and in all aspects of genetics, basic biochemistry, and cell biology related to human health and disease, including the interaction of genes with physical and social environments. A highly respected Scientific Director and a small, professional staff manage IG’s day-to-day activities. A dedicated Institute Advisory Board (IAB) as well as Priority and Planning Committees provide essential input and guidance in everything we do.As one of the 13 Institutes of CIHR, the IG shares responsibility for achieving the principal objectives of CIHR.Job SummaryReporting to the Associate Scientific Director, the Strategic Lead, Knowledge Mobilization will provide strategic and operational leadership on knowledge mobilization projects and communication activities pertaining to the Institute’s mandate. The Strategic Lead, Knowledge Mobilization will work in close collaboration with the CIHR-IG team to adapt and/or develop processes and resources to help ensure the CIHR-IG is successfully delivering its activities, therefore contributing to the implementation of its 2022-27 strategic plan.Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of CIHR-IG’s knowledge mobilization and communication activities in alignment with CIHR and CIHR-IG strategic plans.
  • Generate and facilitate the development of tailored knowledge mobilization tools and resources for a variety of audiences (from biomedical researchers to patients) to support the implementation of “Sequencing Our Future. Institute of Genetics Strategic Plan 2022-2027”.
  • Support the ongoing growth of CIHR-IG’s network of partners to diversify and broaden the institute’s reach with attention to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Create and foster partnerships outside CIHR-IG to leverage existing and future opportunities in national and international research.
  • Represent CIHR-IG at a variety of events to promote the Institute’s work.
NoteNational and international travel will be required 2-3 times per annum.The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (a combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.Dalhousie’s vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination. However, health and safety risks to our community will continue to be monitored and a vaccine mandate may be reinstated if necessary.Required QualificationsMaster’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., science, health administration, communication, or equivalent) with 3-5 years of related experience working within a health-related environment, demonstrating knowledge of the structures, policies, and priorities governing the management of health research. Strong practical and theoretical understanding of all aspects of knowledge mobilization (e.g., generation, synthesis, product development, knowledge translation and exchange, dissemination, management, and evaluation). High level of proficiency in writing, editing, and proofreading a variety of documents such as reports, presentations, briefing notes, web content, newsletters, and speeches aimed at various audiences. Critical thinking and analytical skills to understand and assess the landscape of key stakeholders. Outstanding interpersonal skills, professionalism, and a positive attitude are required to interact with team members, researchers, patients, clinicians, and other stakeholders.AssetsStrategic thinking to synthesize and align multiple ideas to develop new evidence-based approaches. Demonstrated ability to engage non-judgmentally and build trust with diverse groups of people (including marginalized and vulnerable groups). Experience in arranging and coordinating surveys, meetings, focus groups etc. as well as with public speaking/presentations. Graphic design literacy. Experience with MS Office and online collaborative working environments (e.g., SharePoint, MS Teams).
