Job PostingWho is MCHAMetro Community Housing Association (MCHA) is a non-profit, community-based agency that provides support to persons living with mental illness. MCHA is a service provider of the Nova Scotia Department of Community Services. We’re proud to say we’ve been in operation since 1974 and have grown to now operate 15 Residential locations and provide Independent Living Supports.What does the role entailMCHA is looking for a Full Time Permanent System Administrator/IT support to join our team. This role will support organizational success by carrying out a wide range of duties associated with managing our information technology systems. This will include maintaining, configuring, upgrading, and managing our organization’s hardware, software, and networks, as well as improving the performance of our systems and providing technical support to users when required. This position will work from our Central Office, at the Bayers Road Centre in Halifax.Benefits We love to talk about the benefits we provide!   • Maintenance, configuration, management and reliable operation of computer systems, mobile devices, printers, switches, networks, and physical / virtualization servers.
  • Install, manage, and upgrade IT hardware and software, physical / virtual servers, and mobile devices.
  • Install and configure local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and network segments and servers, such as file servers, switches, VPN gateways, and firewalls.
  • Manage user accounts, credentials, permissions, access rights, storage allocations using active directory administration.
  • Troubleshoot IT devices and services (hardware and software) errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues.
  • Provide documentation and technical specifications for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT services.
  • Investigate, recommend, and plan improved business automation processes and services.
  • Perform regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures. Develop IT business continuity procedures.
  • Lead desktop and helpdesk support efforts, making sure all desktop applications, workstations, laptops, mobile devices, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions.
  • Manage IT assets and the security of IT devices and IT services. Manage the patching and vulnerability management processes. Manage the Antivirus services used by the organization. Keep all IT services current and secure.
  • Plan, implement, manage, monitor, and upgrade the organizations website. Manage the security of the organizations web site(s).
  • Manage telecommunications for the organization.
Skills and QualificationsTechnical Skills:
  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration required (New Graduates) or an accredited 2-year IT college program or a combination of education and relevant experience in IT.
  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles such as patch management, managing IT services securely, vulnerability management and identity management.
  • Knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operational best practices. This would include managing help desk tickets, incident management and problem management.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with management and front-line staff regarding IT issues and IT requests.
  • Ability to train end users on the organizations systems and services either as hoc or in small groups.
  • Knowledge of data storage, data protection, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Knowledge of cloud services including the management and support of cloud services.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft suite of products including MS Outlook and Exchange. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10 /11 and Microsoft Server versions 2016/2019/ 2022.
Soft Skills:
  • You will succeed if you have well developed organizational skills and processes to manage incoming requests, to know the status of each request, and for project work.
  • While we can be a laid-back group, we also have expectations for professionalism, i.e. your verbal and written communication as well as professional attire.
  • You will be comfortable in our residential locations working with our staff to address their IT issues and in the company of our participants.
  • You are able to effectively prioritize workload and needs that arise on a daily basis while communicating with your supervisor on challenges with a solution focused approach.
  • You have an innate ability to build trust. You also prove that you are accountable and reliable. You communicate regularly with your supervisor, so they know your status with your work and projects.
Requirements
  • The successful candidate must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle, with current safety inspection. Travel is on an as needed basis to any of our locations at any time during working hours. Travel is reimbursed at the provincial mileage rate.
  • You are able to work Monday to Friday 8:30am-4:30pm. This role is not one that can work effectively on a remote basis so you must be willing to work at our Central Office and travel to our locations as needed.
