Our 6,000 faculty and staff foster a vibrant, purpose-driven community, that celebrated 200 years of academic excellence in 2018.Job SummaryDalhousie Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) is the premier Maritime location for advanced study with over 3,500 graduate students in a research-intensive environment who can choose from over 95 Master’s degrees and more than 45 Doctoral programs. Students learn with top professors in their fields; experts who are recognized across Canada and the world. Reporting to the Dean, the Systems & Functional Lead is responsible for building capacity for the implementation of new tools/systems, prioritizing and managing enterprise-level projects requiring FGS staffing or expertise, providing support for Dalhousie’s new digital strategy, bridging the gap between technological and business process needs, supervising the IT Coordinator, and ensuring data integrity and systems support.Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee technical support to departments and FGS staff related to the Faculty’s systems such as GSIS, GFP, e-ref and Openwater.
  • Collaborate with ITS, EAS, the Registrar’s Office, Dal Analytics, and Student Accounts to map FGS systems with existing systems within or across offices.
  • Diagnose and resolve operational issues in Banner, Xtender, Cognos, and related systems as developed in the future.
  • Develop, implement, deliver, and maintain related training programs for application users to ensure an acceptable level of skill and familiarity with the platform to facilitate compliance with business processes.
  • Implement the data reporting and analytics strategy to support evidence-based decision making and the operational information needs for the University community.
  • Manage the IT Coordinator, and oversee hardware and software support for FGS staff, in consultation with Dal’s central supports.

However, health and safety risks to our community will continue to be monitored and a vaccine mandate may be reinstated if necessary.QualificationsUndergraduate degree in computer science or information management, with five years’ demonstrated experience managing information systems and technology solutions to support operational and reporting requirements in a post-secondary education environment (or equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access) is required. Familiarity with HTML; PHP; PostgreSQL/MySQL; COGNOS; and Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign is required. Experience with desktop support, including hardware maintenance, is required. Excellent communication, time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills are necessary. Experience in leveraging systems to deliver high-quality service and user experience is an asset. Experience with project management is an asset.
