We work collaboratively across the province with a strong dedicated network of supports and staff, to achieve desired and shared outcomes for all.About Our OpportunityAs the Social Work Training Consultant, you develop and deliver Child, Youth & Family Support (CYFS) core services and other training in the field to support child welfare service delivery and consistency of practice across the province. You also deliver child abuse protocol training to staff in regulated childcare settings and key stakeholders in the childcare sector, in cooperation with staff from the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.The training team at DCS develops and delivers the mandatory core training required under the Children and Family Services Act. In addition, the team develops curriculum to support the rollout of new protocols, policies and procedures. This position will assist the team in meeting deadlines associated with updating curriculum and delivering training, all the while ensuring accuracy, alignment with legislation and relevancy.Whether you are experienced in writing curriculum and facilitating training and development, or have an interest in developing those skills, you will be supported and developed in the role. If you enjoy working in a learning and development environment as part of a dynamic team which contributes to best practice in the field, you are an ideal candidate for this job.Primary AccountabilitiesAs the Social Work Training Consultant, a few of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing training needs and priorities for employees;
  • Designing, planning, organizing, and delivering training programs & materials, working with subject matter experts across the department;
  • Presenting information with a variety of instructional techniques or formats to enhance job skills; and
  • Monitoring and evaluating training to ensure program effectiveness.
Qualifications and ExperienceYou must have completed your Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or Master of Social Work (MSW); or are a Registered Social Worker (RSW). A valid drivers license and ability to travel is necessary. Previous child welfare experience will be considered an asset.You must be eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers. You will have an in-depth knowledge of child welfare programs in order to deliver mandatory training under the Children and Family Services Act. Knowledge of the various provincial Standards and protocols is critical as well as demonstrated expertise in the areas of risk assessment, case planning, child development, family dynamics, interviewing techniques and the Children and Family Services Act.Curriculum development, understanding of adult learning, and/or experience in facilitating training will be considered an asset. Must have effective interpersonal leadership and communication (both verbal and written) skills. You may be required to work beyond regular business hours.You must be able to travel to various work site locations across the province and transport training materials. On occasion, a flexible work schedule is required to enable training to be provided on evenings and weekends.Additional InformationThis is a Term opportunity with an anticipated end date of November 9, 2023. The appointment status (‘term’, ‘temporary’ or ‘casual’) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.The worksite location is flexible and will be determined at the offer negotiation stage. DCS has offices across the Province and you can view our locations here. Our Head office is in Halifax and it is expected that you will have regular travel.What We Offer
