Works Supervisors have an opportunity to lead teams of skilled staff that perform many duties required to maintain the inside and outside of our municipality. The work is best explained as seasonal, covering a large geographic area.During the winter works season, this supervisor will fully participate in all required operations in the East area of the HRM, and are on call 12 hours/day to support and participate in the Winter Works Program. During this season, when not engaged in winter works, the department performs tasks ranging from the rebuilding of a damaged sea wall, illegal dumping mitigation, devastated parks / green spaces to pot hole repair & sidewalk maintenance. Since much of the work is weather dependent, Supervisors must maintain a high degree of flexibility in their work schedule. They have a wide range of experience and knowledge on all aspects of public works, together with the versatility to fill in for Supervisors in other IMO divisions.Supervisors are also required to participate in duty week. During duty weeks, they are on call after normal working hours to deal with emergency situations, e.g., oil spills, accident cleanup, etc. using their knowledge and experience to call in the right staff and equipment to do the job.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
