Job descriptionPOSITION:Program Lead – Front Line/After School ProgramPart Time PositionFACILITY:Halifax Centre of HopeHalifax, NSLOCATION:JOB PURPOSE:The Activity Assistant carries out program activities to meet the physical, social, spiritual and emotional needs of the residents.CHARACTERISTIC JOB DUTIES:- Assist the Coordinator with the creation of child/youth programs, including program preparation and delivery.- Deliver daily program (leading activities and assisting with daily program evaluation).- Build and maintain positive, encouraging relationships with the Client (children & parents/caregivers).- Apply Open Arms policies as they relate to program delivery. (Discipline, parent communication, etc.)- Attend and participate in off-site special outings/special events for children.- Participate in staff meetings and trainings on an occasional basis as directed.- Model appropriate professional behavior- Have knowledge of the Salvation Army’s Mission Statement as well as the policies and procedures of the Salvation Army to ensure they are upheld.NOTE: Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties.MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL ATTAINED:The successful job applicant will have completed up to two (2) years of Community College.NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.SPECIAL LICENSES, DIPLOMAS, CERTIFICATIONS OR REQUIREMENTS:The successful applicant will hold/have:Position requires: Child Abuse Registry Check, Criminal Record Check- Must attend mandatory training provided by The Salvation Army- Annual WHMIS Training and certification- Current Certification in First Aid/CPR- Ability to speak Arabic considered an asset.MINIMUM PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE:The incumbent must have the following experience before hire:- Up to three months of prior related experience, including experience working with volunteers and seniors who may have cognitive impairment, organizing outing/special events, and management of aggressive behavior.PHYSICAL EFFORT/DEXTERITY REQUIRED:The performance of the job requires frequently standing/walking for long periods of time, lifting, transporting, crouching, bending, and twisting.WORKING CONDITIONS:Full Time Position and 1 Part Time Position35 Hours Per Week As Scheduled Monday – Friday1 Part Time Position20 Hours Per Week As Scheduled Monday – FridayCLOSING DATE: March 31, 2023Please email/fax or drop off your cover letter and resume in confidence to:Hiring Committee2044 Gottingen St. Halifax, NS B3K 3A9Fax: 902-425-4363Please note any offer of employment will be conditional upon a criminal background check.The Salvation Army will accommodate candidates as required under applicable human rights legislation.
