Job Description

Settlement counselor(30 hrs. per week)CCIS’s is searching for and is accepting applications from qualified job seekers for our next Settlement Counselor for the Hanna - Oyen community.We are looking for a highly motivated, community-minded individual to provide services to immigrants and temporary foreign workers in the community and to build community capacity in laying the foundation for an inclusive and welcoming community. This will be accomplished by working alongside individuals and groups in the community to improve their abilities to affect change and influence related issues. The Settlement Counselor will achieve results in large part by establishing sustainable networks and introducing inclusionary practices.Primary Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Identifying newcomers’ settlement needs and providing settlement and integration services to immigrants in the communities you serve.
  • Connecting with Permanent Residents, Temporary Residents, and Temporary Foreign Workers and providing education about their rights and responsibilities, by delivering custom created facilitated presentations and sessions.
  • Developing partnerships and collaborations in settlement services and engaging multiple stakeholders to support settlement and integration in the communities and surrounding area.
  • Promoting awareness and educating the community on issues surrounding Newcomers.
  • Acting as a bridge between Newcomers and available services in the community.
  • Foster community connections that will effectively respond to crisis situations.
Qualifications:
  • Background and/or experience in non-profit work, work with newcomers, communication, or work with diverse groups is an asset.
  • knowledge in Community Development, Social Work, Education, or related field.
  • Specialized knowledge in inter-cultural communication, settlement process, second language would be an asset
  • Experience in community-based programing
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing
Specific requirements

  • current valid driver’s license & vehicle
  • This work may require working weekends or evenings
