Job Description

The Municipality of Grassland is seeking a qualified, self-motivated individual for the permanent position of Municipal Public Works - Utility Assistant. The position will be based out of Hartney and will report to the Public Works Foreman & Utility Operator.Job duties will include but not limited to: - Demonstrate continuous efforts to improve operations, work cooperatively with staff, council and ratepayers.- Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment and follow all company safety regulations.- Communicate any unsafe conditions and report any injuries in a timely manner to the Public Works Foreman and Utility Operator.- Ensure all equipment used by the municipality is functioning properly and is maintained and repaired.- Maintain and update as required daily records of operation of water treatment facilities including Hartney Pool and keep detailed and accurate reports of daily events, work completed and inventory.- Perform required utility tests, checks and sampling for monitoring of water treatment plants, and swimming pool.- Assist Utilities Operator with utilities operation and maintenance for Water Treatment Plant and wastewater treatment.- Supervision of summer staff.- On call rotation and assist on call personnel in an emergency situation if required.- Perform other related duties as may be assigned.Qualifications:- Grade 12 education with courses in Chemistry and Mathematics or General Education Development (G.E.D.).- Valid Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License.- Must be able to work evening and weekend shifts and/or overtime as required.- Must be physically able to perform all the labouring aspects or other duties associated with the position.- Considerable skill in the operation of designated equipment and hand tools including but not limited to the following: weed trimmers, push & riding mowers, etc.- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. This includes the ability to understand written and verbal instructions.- Demonstrated ability to operate competently a pick-up truck.- Demonstrated competency in safe work practices, knowledge and understanding of occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations and procedures that are applicable to the area of work.- Experience in techniques of plumbing, mechanical, minor electrical and other generally accepted maintenance techniques is an asset.- Possession of certification in Level I, II or III Water Treatment and/or Wastewater Treatment is an asset.Applications will be reviewed as early as Thursday, January 6th, 2022; however, the posting will remain open until the position is filled.
