Using the principles and guidance of Higher Level Plans, Integrated Resource Management, existing policy, legislation, and department directives, you ensure overall sustainability of public lands by balancing development, use and conservation of public lands and the resources located on them. The position delivers benefits to a wide range of stakeholders including, but not limited to, municipalities, industry, tourism, recreation, sand and gravel, quarries and mines, and residential users while ensuring benefits and values are sustained for the long-term benefit of all Albertans. The result is maintenance and improvement in the quality of public land and resources, and long term sustainable use for agriculture, forestry, industrial, commercial, recreation, the public, and fish and wildlife. The Land Management Specialist conducts the review of applications, attempts to abate non-compliant activities, promotes regional and provincial consistency, addresses public inquires/complaints, conducts inspections and investigations, and assists Lands Officers where possible. Opportunities may exist to be a contributing member to various department committees and initiatives. There may be an option to assist other division initiatives and/or wildfire response in accordance with associated levels of certification and mutually agreed upon objectives.Driving for results, you promote sustainable land use practices through adaptive and integrated land use planning on public land. You will play a key role in implementing Provincial and regional directives and guidelines when building relationships and providing advice, technical information, and mediation to various levels of municipal governments, departments, stakeholders and client groups. Utilizing your knowledge, experience and a variety of information sources, your land use decisions will be based on the principles of integrated resource management, legislation, policy, directives and desired outcomes.As the successful candidate, you will showcase your advanced communication and planning skills, knowledge of natural resource management, and sound knowledge of activities that occur on public land. You will also utilize your creative thinking at both the strategic and operational level to develop and maintain long term, effective, integrated land management planning strategies. Relying on your in-depth knowledge of Alberta Government policy and procedure, attention to detail, multi-client negotiation, and mediation skills will ensure your success in the role.QualificationsRequirements:
