Job Description

The Prairie Agricultural Machinery Institute (PAMI) was founded in 1975, on the recommendation of a federal commission on farm machinery advocating for the creation of a central agency for testing and evaluating farm machinery in Canada. PAMI’s mandate has evolved to include researching, designing, building and testing technology in the agriculture, mining and transportation industries. PAMI does not retain intellectual property rather it supports the IP development of its client and collaborates in technology creation.Since its inception, PAMI has operated out of two highly specialized technological facilities in Humboldt, SK and Portage la Prairie, MB. While both sites are state-of-the-art facilities, PAMI’s most valuable asset continues to be its staff of 35-50 employees who encompass a variety of backgrounds including agriculture, engineering, mining, trades, and instrumentation.The Opportunity: Reporting to the Director, Finance and, where applicable, under the direction of the Controller, the incumbent provides accounting and administrative services for the organization.Duties and Responsibilities: This is an important accounting and administrative role within the business enablement team. The key responsibility is to support timely and accurate flow of business information ensuring financial risks related to fraud and errors are minimized. The following are the general duties of the position but are not inclusive of all tasks that may be required:Administrative:

  • Support the CEO and Director of Finance in helping make the organization operate efficiently while also helping establish a productive, safe, happy, and healthy work environment
  • Responsible for all shipping and receiving
  • Collect and distribute mail
  • Welcome visitors, clients, other VIPs to our office – both in person and over the phone
Accounting:
  • Perform accounts payable functions including purchase order, invoice processing, and cheque preparation
  • Prepare deposits and deliver to bank
  • Assist with account and bank reconciliations, including inventory
  • Assist with month and year end procedures
  • Coordinate timely payment of accounts payable
  • Validate that all visa and expense reports are completed and approved in a timely manner
  • Ensure accuracy of account coding on invoices
  • Support the controller with banking needs
  • File and keep the financial information including but not limited to AP and AR well organized so that they are easily accessible by key managers for audit and decision-making purposes
  • Assist with other responsibilities as requested by the Director of Finance or CEO
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must be comfortable with technology
  • Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while still maintaining a smile
  • Desire to succeed individually but also see merit being part of a great team in an office setting
  • Knowledge working with SAGE or other accounting programs will be beneficial
  • General knowledge - Microsoft Office
Credentials and Experience:
  • Ideally 1-2 years of relevant post-secondary education or equivalent experience
