Job Description

Under the direction and guidance of the Program Coordinator, the Caregiver will assist with planning and implementation of daily programs for children at the Aboriginal Head Start Program.The Caregiver provides care and guidance to children of varying ages depending on the assigned license (infants, tots and/or pre-school age) and leads children in activities to stimulate and develop their intellectual, physical, and emotional growth.The ideal candidate will have the following combination of education, experience, and knowledge:

  • Grade 12 Diploma
  • Early Childhood Certificate or related education is considered an asset
  • A minimum of two years’ experience, preferably in Early Childhood Education, leadership, and administration
  • Must have up-to-date immunizations in accordance with the NWT Immunization Schedule, an acceptable Tuberculosis Screening test, and provide proof of this prior to beginning work
  • Strong oral communication skills, including the ability to listen actively and respond verbally in a manner that is clear and respectful
  • Ability to work on several tasks simultaneously, while prioritizing accordingly
  • Ability to demonstrate self-management and maintain composure, consistency, and patience in stressful situations
