Job Description

Under the direction and guidance of the IESP Construction Supervisor, and with the support of the Director, Environment, Regulatory, & IMS, the IESP Construction Assistant will be a contract position responsible for shadowing the IESP Construction Supervisor and assisting with the project management of the IESP Early Site Works (ESW) construction in the winter of 2022-23. The IESP Construction Assistant will shadow the management of Principal Contractor performance during the ESW construction and shadow the management of other onsite services such as ensuring IESP health, safety, and environmental policies are being adhered to and onsite quality control is performed.It is anticipated that the ESW construction will be conducted over a period of approximately 3 months. The ideal successful candidate would be a local Inuvialuit beneficiary who is looking to build a career in Project Management and/or Health, Safety, and Environmental Protection and has an interest in the long-term construction and operations of the IESP. Rotational work will be considered.The ideal candidate will have the following combination of education, experience, and knowledge:

  • High school education (Minimum completion of Grade 10)
  • Previous work experience (including working on the land)
  • A very strong interest in project management, including Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Protection
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Willing to learn and take additional training and courses
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willing to learn ILA and NWT Safety and Environment Regulations
  • Able to write reports using Microsoft Office software
  • Reliable, able, and willing to work
