Job Description

SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 6 (ROCKY MOUNTAIN)CASUAL HOMESTAY COORDINATOR (Nechako Lakes)EXEMPT POSITIONTuesday, November 9th, 2021Casual Homestay Coordinator, Nechako Lakes, effective immediately to March 31st, 2022 (contracts renewed annually). Compensation for this position varies according to the employment situation.School District No. 6 (Rocky Mountain) is located in the beautiful Rocky Mountain Trench encompassing the communities of Golden, Invermere and Kimberley. The District has shared services agreements with School District No. 5 (Southeast Kootenay), School District No. 19 (Revelstoke) and School District No. 91 (Nechako Lakes) to manage international education in those jurisdictions. The combined Rocky Mountain International Student Program places 200+ international students each year in the communities of Revelstoke, Golden, Invermere, Kimberley, Cranbrook, Fernie, Sparwood, Vanderhoof, Fort St. James and Burns Lake.Depending on the employment situation, the successful candidate will:

  • work closely with international program staff and school administrators to support international students in Burns Lake, Vanderhoof, and/or Fort St. James;
  • coordinate and supervise a wide variety of extra-curricular activities, events, and trips;
  • be on-call to provide advice/support to students and host families and to attend to emergencies;
  • transport students between Nechako Lakes communities and surrounding areas for activities, medical appointments and airport arrivals/departures;
  • meet and/or communicate with international students, school administrators, teaching staff, and host parents on a regular basis;
  • communicate with education agents and/or natural parents in the students’ home countries;
  • process and manage student and host family information and documentation;
  • hold a valid BC Driver’s license (Class 5) with a Class 4 license considered an asset;
    • own a vehicle suitable for transporting students if/when needed;
  • have or be willing to obtain Occupational First Aid (Level 1); and
  • perform other related duties as needed or assigned.
Experience working with an international student program, experience as a host parent, experience working with high school-aged students and experience organizing/supervising activities and events will be considered assets.
