Job Description

Camp Mackinicholea is situated on a scenic peninsula surrounded by the clean, clear water of Long Island Lake, about a 90 minute drive north of Edmonton.We offer exciting camping programs throughout July & August where campers have opportunities to gain new friendships while having fun in a unique outdoor setting. We model and nurture moral values, leadership and life skills through a respectful, inclusive community. Our vision is that our campers leave with friendships, respect for self, others and nature for life.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Carry out all duties as designated by the director which will include a specific program area
• Read and follow the Policy Handbook and Training Manual
• Primary responsibility for health, well-being and happiness of campers, they are top priority
• Twenty-four (24) hour supervision of assigned campers
• Enthusiastically participate in all camp activities
• Set an example for campers and other staff in all areas, including cleanliness, punctuality, clean-up chores, rules and sportsmanship
• Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities
• Guide campers in participating successfully in all aspects of the campers’ day
• Observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, apply appropriate behavior-management technique
• Attend all pre-camp training and planning meetings
• Fill out an evaluation form following each camp

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be eighteen (18) years of age and preferably had previous experience in an out-of-doors setting
• Standard First Aid and CPR C
• Love working with kids
• Must be understanding, patient and self-controlled
• Have a sense of humor and be willing to make a fool of yourself to make a kid smile
• Good interpersonal skills
• Good physical health and stamina
• Mature, eager and flexible
• Capable of planning and implementing a camp programs as needed (see programs specific descriptions)
• Must provide a current acceptable Police Intervention Check including the Vulnerable Sector Search and Intervention Record Check from Children and Family Services.
