Job Description

Reporting to the Site Lead, the Recreation and Volunteer Coordinator performs professional duties in planning, developing, coordinating, implementing, and supervising recreation and programs for the Home.The Recreation coordinator is responsible for leading the relevant recreation members and volunteers in the provision of recreation and leisure programs for Residents.Supervises the recreation aides and volunteers by providing guidance and direction as required to ensure the delivery of Resident Centered programs based on Residents #39; individualized care plans and Park Place Seniors Living policies and procedures.The Recreation/Volunteer Coordinator demonstrates good leadership skills and sound understanding of recreation and leisure practices in accordance with the applicable provincial registering body, any provincial or local health services mandate and Park Place Seniors Living Policies and Procedures.The Recreation / Volunteer Coordinator will ensure a commitment to Resident #39;s Safety and to ourquot;culture of safety quot; as per the Park Place Seniors Living Strategic Directions.Qualifications and Experience

  • Graduate from an approved Therapeutic Recreation Program
  • Minimum 3-year recent related experience
  • Equivalencies may be considered.
  • Current membership with BCTRA or ATRA the applicable provincial professional body.
  • Serving it Right Program required or within 3 months of hire.
  • Food Safe Program required or within 1 month of hire.
  • WHMIS required.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plans organizes, develops, implements and evaluates recreation and leisure programs.
  • Ensures holistic, comprehensive assessments of the Residents are completed on Move-In and ongoing, including evaluation of the Resident #39;s response to the appropriateness and effectiveness of recreation and leisure programs.
  • Provides leadership through a respectful, collaborative approach to monitor and supervise the Recreation Team in service provision.Provides employees with orientation, mentoring, and education.
  • Acts as a role model by demonstrating professionalism, empathy, trust, and respect in all interpersonal relationships, and recognizes personal impact on team dynamics.
  • Establishes and maintains therapeutic relationships with Residents and families, employees, volunteers, and others through effective interpersonal skills.
  • Supports recreation staff in advocating for Resident choice and autonomy in decision making.
  • Monitors the Recreation Teams #39; collaboration with Residents and their families to ensure quality service delivery.
  • Participates in the quality improvement/performance measurement initiatives and processes including follow-up with summary and action plan implementation to meet or exceed best practice and Accreditation Standards.
  • Focuses on quality of service, safety, and quality improvement by participating in Park Place Seniors Living site committees.
  • Ensures all documentation of recreation assessments, records of observation and Resident responses to recreation and leisure programs are according to professional standards and Park Place Seniors Living policies and procedures.
  • Chairs monthly meetings for Resident/Family Council, Recreation and Worklife Committee.
  • Attends and actively participates in the Park Place Recreation and Leisure Services / Pine Grove Resident #39;s Society.
  • Coordinates fundraising activities.
