Job Description

Internal/ExternalYouth Support WorkerFull Time Contract for one year with possible extensionLocation – DrydenPOSITION SUMMARY:The Youth Support Worker is a full-time contract program position. The Youth Support Worker is responsible for providing safe and supportive functions to youth, children and young parents.QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Social Work Degree preferred with two years of experience in field, however, a combination of related education, experience and skills will be considered;
  • Knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act and Regulations;
  • Knowledge of Customary Care and the philosophy of service delivery, First Nation communities, family structure, as well as local customs and traditions;
  • Working knowledge of agency philosophy, mandate, policies and procedures;
  • Strong commitment to helping Anishinaabe children and their families by providing services in ways that respect Anishinaabe culture and spiritual practices ;
  • Committed to ensure highest level of confidentiality at all times ;
  • Experience in intervention, conflict resolution, mediation and problem solving;
  • Direct experience working with at-risk youth;
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively within a multi-disciplinary team of service providers;
  • Knowledge of a sensitivity to the life experiences and needs of the youth community
  • Excellent written, interpersonal and oral communication skills;
  • Excellent time management, problem-solving and decision-making skills ;
  • Proven ability to take initiative and work independently as well as in a team environment;
  • Ability to flex daily work hours as determined by the Resource Manager;
  • Must possess a valid Ontario G Driver’s License, be willing to travel and provide a Driver’s Abstract; and
  • Ability to speak Anishinaabemowin is preferred and a definite asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS:The work is performed in an interior and office environment located in the offices of AAFS. The position requires a normal range of hearing and clear speaking voice to answer phones and to sit for extended periods of time, walk, stand, stretch, bend, crouch, kneel and lift/carry up to 30 pounds. Use of hands, fingers and arms to hold a telephone, type, photocopy and fax. Occasional stress from fast-paced and varying demands with moderate to high noise level.AAFS requires all employees, contractors, students, and volunteers to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, absent of a valid medical exemption or other reasonable consideration pursuant to the Human Rights Code of Ontario.Salary Range: $60,700 – $74,445Benefits: AAFS offers Extended Health, Dental, AD&D and Group Life benefits to this contract position after one month of employment as well as voluntary participation in our Pension Program.We are committed to recruiting a diverse workforce that represents the First Nations communities that we serve.
