Job Description

OPEN competition(1) One – Indefinite Term Contract, Full TimeIndian Residential School (IRS)/Cultural Support Worker SupervisorFor the community of La Ronge(This is a Re-Advertisement. Previous Applicants Need Not Apply)Lac La Ronge Indian Band-Health Services Department is now inviting applications for one (1) Indefinite Term Contract, Full Time, IRS/Cultural Support Worker Supervisor for the community of La Ronge. This position requires living a healthy lifestyle and is familiar with the Woodland Cree Culture and Practices. The ideal candidate is responsible for promoting healthy traditional practices and assist the Health Team in providing health programming within their communities. The IRS/Cultural Support Worker Supervisor shall supervise IRS/Cultural Support Workers for all LLRIB communities and shall report to the Cultural Program Manager.Duties:

  • Prepare statistical & monthly reports for submission;
  • Provide coaching and mentoring for staff within their unit;
  • Provide initial and ongoing field orientation of staff;
  • Ensure teamwork is being implemented; Coordinate and chair program meetings;
  • Increase awareness and understanding of issues among First Nations;
  • Contribute in thoughtful and innovative ways to develop and implement awareness and prevention programming;
  • Participate in developing a cultural plan in each community with a goal to inspire community members to live a healthy lifestyle;
  • Supervise IRS/Cultural Support Workers in facilitating grief and loss workshops;
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or designate.
Qualifications:
  • Certificate in Social Work or health related field; 2 year’s supervisory experience;
  • Combination of equivalent education and relevant experience may be considered;
  • Knowledge and understanding of First Nations is a requirement;
  • Strong organizational skills & able to multi-task;
  • Experience in facilitating groups, public speaking, presentations; and writing reports;
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team;
  • Ability to speak/understand Cree is an asset;
  • Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office;
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and public relations skills;
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Screening & Drivers Record Checks;
  • Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license;
