Multimedia Journalist - (Lacombe and Sylvan Lake, AB)Nestled in the heart of central Alberta, the city of Lacombe and the town of Sylvan Lake are two of the most unique communities in the region, offering a range of indoor and outdoor recreational and cultural opportunities only a couple of hours from the Rocky Mountains. The town of Sylvan Lake is a thriving community serving as a year-round tourist destination. The City of Lacombe is home to Burman University and a vibrant arts community. These two newspapers are vital to their communities as part of the Prairie Division of Black Press Media, Canada’s largest private community news media company with extensive digital and newspaper properties throughout B.C., Alberta, the Northwest Territories,Yukon, Washington, Alaska and Hawaii.We are seeking highly talented, experienced multimedia journalists to provide storytelling in several nearby communities, including Eckville, Alix, Blackfalds and Clive. The successful candidate(s) will be focused on writing and coordinating news coverage including creating, editing and posting story, photo and video content to the local websites and print product.Work may be based out of one office or split between two offices, depending on the candidate.You will have outstanding writing and oral communication skills and a mastery of copy editing, grammar andCanadian Press style, honed after years of newsroom experience.Flexibility, attention to detail and the ability to meet multiple deadlines are vital.Successful candidates will possess an excellent understanding of social media, SEO, UGC, photography, shooting and editing video, as well as print production, including a mastery of Photoshop.Key importance is placed on the ability to maintain ongoing website optimization and the development of fresh content, driving immediacy and audience engagement. We’re looking for someone who is self-motivated and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.Applicants must hold formal journalism degrees or diplomas, with experience in a digital and print environment.A valid driver’s licence, reliable vehicle and smartphone are mandatory. Applicants must be able to legally work in Canada.Shifts may include a weekend day, early morning starts and/or evening coverage.
