Job Description

IMMEDIATE OPENINGThis position is a project based contract with the option to continue on to future projects with Viking.Reporting to the VP of HSE, the Project Safety Advisor works with all levels of the organization and is responsible and accountable to ensure that HSE standards and procedures are met and aligned with legislation and customer specifications. The HSE Field Advisor will ensure the timely collection and retention of HSE documentation, oversee the maintenance of Viking’s HSE programs and strictly adhere to the organization’s HSE policies.Position Qualifications:

  • Holds a NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer) designation preferred.
  • Minimum 5-7 years’ prior experience in a field role in Pipeline and Facility Construction
  • Strong working knowledge and demonstrated expertise of all pertinent regulations, including OHS, WCB and Labor Standards
  • Standard First Aid, H2S Alive and Ground Disturbance Level 2, WHMIS TTT (Train the Trainer) and TDG TTT (Train the Trainer)
  • Ability to analyze problems, prepare options for consideration, and implement solutions
  • Strong computer knowledge and documentation skills, demonstrated skills in- Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft 365 (Teams and SharePoint), and Smartphone Applications
  • Communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Self-motivated, and able to manage shifting priorities
  • Excellent time management, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Extremely detail-oriented and analytical thinker
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Ability to work shift work meaning day or night shift depending on field activities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Commitment to corporate strategy and ethical standards
  • Ability to travel provincially and interprovincial as required
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide visible field presence and leadership on project specific active work locations
  • Advise on and ensure Project Managers, supervisors and employees maintain compliance to applicable legislative requirements
  • Conduct Monthly Company Safety Meeting on site
  • Establish a working relationship with client Safety representatives on matters of mutual concern.
  • Research and understand client onsite safety deliverables. Document and report on any additional requested field level deliverables by client safety to VP of HSE and Project Manager.
  • Conduct site specific Orientations and document completions
  • Complete daily documented task / work group visits. Include the following:
  • Topics discussed with the Foreman,
  • Topics or documentation corrections discussed with crews/workers,
  • Any technical / legislative assistance or correction given,
  • Email daily report to foreman, supervisor, and VP of HSE
Lead program effectiveness through daily checking, reporting, and coaching on: * Field level hazard assessments,
  • Safety meetings, Inspections,
  • Hazard ID’s and Positive Safety Observations,
  • Required Safety Tickets, KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) and man counts
  • Documentation errors such as “revisions” and omissions
Onsite Subcontractor and Vendor Management
  • Check all required tickets when workers are arriving on site
  • Collect contractor documentation to record on KPI’s
  • Coach and correct Documentation and program errors
Lead incident investigations
  • Communicate with VP of HSE and Project Manager
  • Help supervisor determine root cause
  • Assist Supervisors with determining corrective actions
  • Corrective Action Follow up for completion and Documentation of completion
Provide safety leadership at morning Foreman Meetings
  • Communicate documentation and Safety findings from the previous day
  • Discuss any upcoming or ongoing initiatives
  • Share additional daily safety meeting documentation requirements
  • Follow up with corrective actions assigned to Supervisors and foreman
Attend tailgate meeting daily and communicate;
  • Any topics not covered by Foreman
  • Review of task applicable process documents where required
Assist Supervisors with mentorship and competency programs
  • Let Foreman know what workers need competency reviews
  • Assist Foreman by recording competency finding on Sitedocs form
  • List all competency assessments completed on daily report
  • Advise Supervisor or Foreman when progressive discipline is required for continued safety infractions by workers and document in daily report.
  • Coordinate and schedule group training if required.
