In Canada, SGS employs over 2,000 team members across 70 locations.Job DescriptionThe Supervisor is responsible for all activities, operations and staff within the assigned department.Responsible for designing/executing development and training programs for employees.Completing annual PA performance reviewsWorking with department administration to be accountable for the Health, Safety and Environment of personnel and the enforcement of all regulations, maintaining 100% on report cardWorking with department administration to be accountable for quality – monitor and maintain lab QC standards. Complete QC chart monitoringExecuting production work and reviewing dataAnswers queries regarding data review by GBS and delegates to Chief/Senior Chemist as necessaryAccountable for maintaining production, quality and financial targetsAccountable for routine and non-routine equipment maintenanceActs as back up to the Chief/Senior Chemist in their absenceInvestigates and reports details for CAPA investigations with sign off and implementation of corrective actionsParticipates and executes WCS events within the departmentEnsures staffing and supplies are adequate to meet capacity and TAT requirementsResponsible for daily manoeuvring of priorities, troubleshooting equipment failures and resolving process problems within the department.Plan and initiate procedures and systems necessary to ensure the maintenance and improvement of the company quality system.QualificationsEducation: Minimum of a Post-Secondary Education in a Science related program or equivalent experience or trainingExperience: Minimum 1-3 years of relevant laboratory work experience required.Minimum 1-3 years of previous supervisory experience is required.Specific technical skills:Strong leadership skills and experience in the supervising of small technical teams, ideally including the supervising of people in a minerals related laboratory.Previous experience using laboratory instruments and the ability to operate and trouble-shoot them.Knowledge of good laboratory practices and good management practices.Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skill.Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel and Outlook).Good hand/eye coordination when handling samples & lab equipment.Must use good judgment to identify and resolve problems on the job.
