With more than 93,000 employees, SGS operates a network of over 2,400 offices and laboratories around the world.Job DescriptionThis position has generalist responsibilities for the regional and associated site coordination of the Health, Safety and Environmental management system.

  • Promote positive employee relations to strengthen Employee and Organizational commitment to a strong health and safety culture within defined region of responsibility.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership abilities with the profile to drive local adoption of Health, Safety and Environment programs.
  • Educate Managers and Employees on Health and Safety practices through effective communication programs and one-on-one consultations where appropriate. Includes establishing regional OI communication plans to drive Top Page strategies via business leadership.
  • Implement communications strategies that makes OI visual and present in the workplace.
  • Educate managers and supervisors on content of the Operational Integrity Leadership Report cards, monitor for compliance and report non-conformances to management.
  • Provide staff with information concerning internal Health and Safety policies, applicable government regulations and future trends.
  • Implement and support national OI strategies that enable the Company to adapt to future organizational needs and requirements. Includes: STELLAR action plans; Campaigns including Safe Start and Safety Month; OI @ Mobile digital expansion; ChemWatch Chemical Management; Health Track Occupational Health management system;
  • Utilize the CRYSTAL OI data management system to collate, analyse and report at risk leading and lagging indicator trends to the Director, Local Management and the JHSC.
  • Reference Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable Regulations to identify contraventions and report to management.
  • Accountable for the implementation of the Health, Safety and Environment management system and reporting non-conformances.
  • Immediate reporting of any Health, Safety or Environmental incidents, accidents or concerns to Director of Health, Safety & Environment for action according to reporting criteria.
  • Communicate and monitor compliance to the Canada OI Training matrix and facilitate uptake of content by operational groups utilizing Canada Learning Management System tools.
  • Conduct, co-present or co-ordinate Health and Safety training sessions for management, supervision and hourly personnel on various Health and Safety topics.
Qualifications
  • A post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or a related program Over 5 years of progressive Health and Safety experience in a medium or large-size industrial or professional services environment is required
  • Over 5 years of previous Health and Safety training experience is required.
  • Solid understanding of Health and Safety management and its connection to the business strategy.
  • Must have a proactive Health and Safety attitude.
  • Understanding of the Health, Safety and Environment national requirements and how the general provincial legislation applies to the SGS HSE program.
  • Superior organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Bi-lingual fluency required if region includes Quebec.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Candidates must be proficient in using various type of computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.).
  • A solid understanding of MS Project Management, Oracle and other web-based applications would also be an asset.
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Ensures full compliance with the company’s Health and Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.
