An exciting opportunity exists at G&E Contracting LP for a self-motivated individual to join our team as our General Manager. This position provides leadership, planning, organization, direction, coordination and control to meet the growth and profit objectives of the company. This is a full-time salary position based out of our Langford office and will report to the Director of Operations – Contracting.G&E Contracting LP is a Vancouver Island based civil construction company specializing in a wide range of civil infrastructure projects. G&E has established a successful reputation in commercial, residential, institutional and industrial projects and has been servicing the construction industry since 1979. G&E Contracting LP is part of the Mainroad Group, which is an employee-owned company recognized as a leader in providing innovative, safe and reliable maintenance, products and construction services for civil infrastructure works across Western Canada.The successful candidate will be offered a competitive compensation package including a comprehensive benefits package, performance-based bonus, paid vacation time, the option to join a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) and the opportunity to purchase shares and become an owner of the Company!The successful candidate shall have the following qualifications:Minimum 10 years’ of project management experience in the civil construction industry.Experience within the Vancouver Island Construction Market is an asset.Completion of a degree or diploma in Civil Engineering is required.Completion of a degree or diploma in Business Administration is an asset.Completion of a construction or project management program/course is an asset.Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office and other project related software (Site Docs., Eclipse).Proven understanding and experience of the tendering process.Proven contract management expertise and financial acumen.Experienced leader with strong persuasiveness, encouraging and motivating leadership style.Proven coaching and mentoring capabilities.Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure changing environment.Strong delegation skills.Advanced negotiation skills.Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate with teams and develop positive working relationship with individuals and groups.Job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:Develops and implements operational priorities and strategic goals to provide direct reports with direction and prioritization of their operation to ensure maximum productivity and morale.Oversees the complete tendering and risk management function for the Operating Company.Assesses local market for operational growth opportunities.Meets routinely with direct reports to discuss personal and professional progress, challenges, etc. (via phone calls, one on one, site visits, monthly operation meeting, etc.).Coaches and mentors direct reports in the understanding and execution of contracts.Drives a positive safety culture within the operation through safety leadership.Physically and frequently visits active work sites to promote employee engagement and complete safety reviews.Implements annual performance goals with direct reports and ensures all required performance goals are implemented.Oversees requisitions for purchases of equipment, materials, operating supplies and/or professional services needed to meet the operational objectives while meeting the determined budget.Works with Project Managers to review and negotiate Subcontracts and take immediate action to adjust Subcontract agreements as necessary to meet the project requirements.In conjunction with the Director of Operations establishes, implements, and tracks annual Operating Company budgets and long-term growth plans.Prepares monthly forecasts to ensure accuracy of month end financials and prepare monthly Operating Company financial reports for distribution to the Mainroad Group.In unison with Mainroad’s corporate teams, implements systems, policies and procedures that provide improved operations control and efficiencies.Interested applicants are asked to send their resume and cover letter to hr@mainroad.ca.
