Annually, we provide services to over 2500 individuals and families.The OpportunityWe are seeking someone who wants to make a difference and has a passion for supporting children and youth, and their family members, who have experienced trauma. A good fit for our agency is a self-directed, engaging and empathetic Clinical Counsellor who has clear knowledge, experience and understanding of trauma as it relates to the experience of a child or youth. We are looking for someone who can function independently yet also interface well with our Clinical Coordinator who oversees the program. This position will provide comprehensive clinical counselling to children and youth, and their families, who have experienced trauma.JOB POSTING: 2023-0100 Clinical Counsellor – Trauma Intervention ProgramDATE: April 03, 2023POSITION: Permanent, Part-TimeHOURS OF WORK: 14 Hours per week, with the possibility to increase hours as a contractor if desiredFlexible Work Schedule with potential for some weekends and eveningsSALARY RANGE: Grid 16P, $40.49- $46.15, subject to BCGEU wage increasesBENEFITS: not eligibleVACATION: as per ESSS policyCLOSING: Open until filledANTICIPATED START DATE: ASAPKey Responsibilities

• Provides comprehensive clinical counselling and psychotherapy to children and youth, and their family members, who have experiences of trauma or toxic stress, using a variety of psychotherapeutic techniques. Assessment and treatment practices will be consistent with the MCFD Trauma Informed Practice guidelines and the Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC) Framework.
• Interviews participants to gather case history information. Assesses profound social, psychological, emotional and/ behavioral issues affecting participants. Identifies core areas of concern to be addressed by clinical counselling.
• Identifies, assesses and monitors participants’ needs in conjunction with caregivers and/or other service providers.
• Provides individual, family, as well as group therapy and education groups.
• Develops and implements treatment plans and interventions.
• Provides follow-up support to participants after the end of therapy/treatment, as appropriate. Monitors and evaluates participants’ functioning and interaction with family, friends and in the community. Advises other professionals involved with participants’ cases where further evaluation or more intensive treatment is required.
• Provides consultation to those working with participant cases (social workers, probation officers, other organization staff, and professionals) and to the broader community.
• Provides required reports on participants’ behavior and progress. Maintains clinical records indicating the nature and duration of treatment.
• Maintains waitlist, including the provision of waitlist management, monthly reporting and statistical requirements as needed.
• Assesses referrals by gathering information, determining eligibility, service priorities and providing appropriate additional referral services as needed.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications1. Education and Knowledge

• Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology, Social Work or a related field.

2. Training and Experience

• Two (2) years recent related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Specialization in the treatment of trauma through basic training, continuing education or clinical experience.
• Direct service delivery experience in the community social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of community-based services and related provincial and community support service systems.
• Demonstrated knowledge of relevant formal counselling, psychotherapy and assessment techniques, including experiential modalities such as play and art therapy.

• Proficient in comprehensive screening and assessment practices using established standardized measures and approaches.
• Well-developed interpersonal, counselling, oral and written communication skills.
• Proficient teaching skills.
• Solid organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to maintain professional integrity and confidentiality.
• Demonstrated knowledge and application of trauma-informed and culturally safe principles of care.
• Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Acts, pertinent regulations, policy, procedures and other statutory and certification requirements (such as the Mental Health Act; Adult Guardianship Act; Child, Family and Community Service Act; and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act).
• Effective listening and consensus building skills that promote communication and a cooperative approach to problem solving and decision making.
• Ability to work effectively with others in a multicultural environment, independently and as part of a team, including understanding the frameworks of other disciplines.
• Ability to maintain professional integrity, boundaries, and confidentiality.
• Ability to make effective referrals in a collaborative manner, reflecting in-depth knowledge of community resources and strong collaborative skills in working with other community partners.
• Knowledge of systemic issues and risk factors facing marginalized groups including 2SLGBTQIA+ and Indigenous children and youth.
• Knowledge and respect of the diversity of the BC population.

4. Other Information

• Must possess a valid BC class 5 Driver’s license, have a reliable vehicle, business insurance and drivers abstract review. (mileage paid for work use)
• Must possess a working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office Software.
• Police Information Check
• Eligibility for registration with a professional counselling/social work body in BC.
• Current First Aid certification required.
• Evidence of training in Telehealth.
