About us:Vancouver Petrographics is a full service petrographics laboratory. The bulk of the work at Vancouver Petrographics is the preparation of high quality geological thin sections. We are a small close team of 5 people with over 100 years of combined experience.Job Expectations:The geological technician is responsible for the following:- Organizing jobs as they are delivered.- Cutting out oversized samples using the rock saw and labeling and impregnating those samples with epoxy.- Ensuring the samples are flat, clean and ready to be mounted onto the glass slides.- Using the polarizing microscope to ensure thin section thickness. This requires knowledge of thin section mineralogy and the ability to recognize birefringence colours of the most common minerals.- Quality control of the finished polished and covered thin sections.Qualifications:- Intermediate mineralogy identification skills are required.- Geology background is preferred and a earth science diploma or degree is beneficial.- Ability to lift up to 30lbs and to work on your feet for a full shift.- Attention to detail as samples are often irreplaceable.- Must have a strong grasp of the English language both written and spoken.Compensation:- Competitive hourly wage.- Paid vacation time.- Extended Health Benefits after the standard probational period.Please apply via email.Benefits:
