Job Number:J1222-0774Competition Number:23-PC001Job Title:Paid Call Firefighter (up to 12) - 23-PC001Employment Type:Paid Call FirefighterCompetition Opening Date:December 15, 2022Competition Closing Date:January 15, 2023Pay Rate:$25.25/HourThe Township of Langley is currently recruiting for up to twelve (12) Paid Call Firefighters to supplement our team in the Protective Services – Fire Division.Reporting to the Assigned Officer(s), Paid Call Firefighters work as part of a team of career and paid call firefighters and department personnel to achieve an efficient and effective fire department. This is accomplished through reliable performance of firefighting, maintenance, education, training and by observing and complying with municipal policies, department operating guidelines and recognized safety practices.Illustrative Examples of Work:

  • Perform firefighting, technical rescue, first aid and other related services
  • Drive and operate fire department apparatus, and equipment as assigned
  • Maintain cleanliness of the equipment and facilities, service and repair department structures, grounds, equipment, apparatus, turnout gear and uniforms as required
  • Participate in training, drills and practice sessions with department career and paid call personnel
  • Participate in public relations and education program events as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
You have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superior officers, career, and other paid call firefighters. You are enthusiastic, have the ability to react quickly, evaluate situations, communicate information and perform duties calmly and effectively under adverse and dangerous conditions. Paid Call Firefighters must have sufficient strength to perform prolonged and arduous work under adverse conditions and communicate with the public in a courteous and professional manner. Preference will be given to candidates who are in a good physical condition, reside in the Township of Langley, available to attend daytime incidents and evening practice sessions and are able to respond to calls on a year-round basis.Applicants are advised that the following are conditions of employment with the Township for successful candidates:
  • 19 years of age or older
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Reside in the Township of Langley
  • No criminal record (a completed RCMP Police Information Check will be required for those that successfully pass the interview process)
In order to be considered for this position, candidates must have a valid BC Class 5 (full-privilege) or higher Driver’s License and safe driving record as demonstrated by a Personal Driving Record. You must upload a current Personal Driving Record (select the 5-year option) that has been obtained within 6 months of the closing date below. To obtain a copy of your Personal Driving Record, please contact ICBC directly (more than six points in the past three years, as of the date of the application, may eliminate an applicant from consideration). A copy of your Driver Factor Report will not be accepted. Applications without this attached required document will be deemed incomplete and will not be considered.Successful candidates are required to commit to attending the department’s scheduled 5-week recruit training program. The recruit training program will run from April 11, 2023 to May 14, 2023. The training consists of 3-hour sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings beginning at 19:00, and 8-hour sessions on Saturdays and Sundays beginning at 08:00.The rate of pay for this position is $25.25 per hour (2019 rates).
