April 24, 2023 to September 27, 2024) to join our team of professionals in the Community Development Division, Development Planning Department. Reporting to the Manager, Development Planning, in this unionized position you will have a broad range of development planning responsibilities reviewing urban and rural issues, and processing rezoning, subdivision, ALR and development permit applications. You will prepare reports to Council and ensure recommendations are consistent with municipal policies, bylaws and specifications. This position provides customer service, advice and interpretation on land development designs and projects.Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed analysis of rezoning and development applications and ensure conformance to overall development goals
  • Draft bylaws and consolidations, and prepare reports and policies for a variety of planning projects
  • Interpret bylaws and answer a variety of internal and public enquiries regarding land use or related matters
  • Attend and participate in internal/external meetings and provide technical and professional advice on policy, goals and objectives, regulations and bylaws
  • Collect and interpret data applicable to general or spe¬cialized planning programs and projects
  • Perform related work as required
Qualifications:
  • University graduation in an appropriate discipline, plus a post graduate degree in Community or Regional Planning or other related area supple¬mented by some professional planning experience, or an equivalent combi-nation of training and experience
  • Considerable knowledge of policies, regulations, bylaws and legislation governing community development
  • Considerable knowledge of economics, municipal finances and sociology as applied to urban planning
  • Sound knowledge of analytical and research techniques/methodology and of the current trends and developments in municipal planning
  • Ability to perform planning research and analytical tasks and apply statistical techniques
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with internal/external contacts and other related agencies

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $43.90 - $51.87 per hour (5 steps, 2020 rates) plus 13% in lieu of benefits.
