Jansen will add diversity and a Canadian presence to BHP’s global portfolio. Jansen’s large resource endowment provides the opportunity to develop it in stages, with anticipated initial capacity of 4.35 Mtpa. The BHP Board has recently sanctioned Jansen Project (Stage 1), with a US $5.7 billion investment. The project is now entering the construction phase, with the first potash expected in 2027.The Jansen project has set up a dedicated team to execute the mining scope. As the mining scope is on the project critical path, this team supports the sequential nature of mining tasks while ensuring seamless interfaces with the rest of the Jansen project. This team will promote shared accountability between BHP and HBJV, trusting that the best person is selected for each role as they work towards safely delivering the mining scope on time, on budget, and with high quality. This team will strive for effective work planning, rapid and empowered decision-making, and continuous improvement through a joint construction and operational mindset. This will be a camp position on a 15 day on 13 day off rotation.*In this full-time permanent role, you will be a champion of diversity & inclusion.ROLE PURPOSE:The Execution Planning Specialist will work with their team lead, the Superintendent Readiness, and all other team members to ensure effective transitions between contract packages and provide appropriate execution readiness guidance to Contractors. The candidate will leverage expertise from the Mining IPT Package Coordinators, Project Controls, fellow team members, and contractors to ensure the readiness framework is developed, deployed, and embedded in the ways of working to maximize execution and schedule certainty and capitalize on cost and schedule improvement opportunities.JOB DIMENSIONS:Decisions

  • This role will be responsible to support decisions made by the other roles – specifically, they will be consulted on decisions pertaining to:
    • The readiness planning framework requirements and improvement opportunities
    • Tracking/reporting tools and methods used by contractors and project controls to monitor the contractor’s readiness to execute and progress against the plan
    • Constructability reviews
    • 60% & 90% Engineering Design Reviews
    • Continuous improvement opportunities to increase safety or productivity of construction activities

  • Direct, day-to-day supervision and oversight from the Superintendent Readiness

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Holds Contractors accountable to follow the readiness framework to develop schedules and methodologies which will be used to plan all contractor activities prior to execution
  • Works with the contractors to develop visual boards to prioritize, track, and communicate construction activities
  • Supports the Transition / Operations team and all active contractors to incorporate the planning framework (i.e., 1/7/14/30/60/90 – day plans, etc.) requirements into daily work processes
  • Supports contractor readiness team and constantly looks for opportunities to improve construction safety and schedule certainty
  • Works closely with Project Controls to understand both cost and schedule improvements
  • Speaks up about threats and opportunities, seeks to learn from success and failure, and takes responsibility for managing risks and issues.
  • Responsible to foster working partnerships to support the Mining Contractors through the planning and readiness process and all associated requirements
  • Prioritizes work effort and resources accordingly
  • Supports material risk process and manages critical controls as required
  • Ensures they are adhering to and exhibiting Jansen core values
  • Operates day-to-day ensuring that activities are prioritized in line with broader objectives
  • Ensures that they are managing their time effectively and adhering to deadlines
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years experience in general project execution / management
  • Mine / shaft construction expertise considered favorable
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and schedules
  • Ability to operate effectively and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment utilizing agile methodologies
  • Understanding of Jansen Project ways of working and lessons learned is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and quickly comprehend new concepts and technologies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders including functional managers, discipline leads on the project, clients, outside vendors and contractors
  • Demonstrated strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills including root cause analysis
  • Ability to effectively work with and influence teams to drive continuous improvement on the project
  • Strong computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required
  • Demonstrated ability to work together with contractors in productive manner, guided by Values like Integrity, Simplicity and Respect
  • Ability to foster an inclusive environment for their team while grounding to the Jansen core values
  • Ability to communicate effectively across various stakeholder groups
  • Motivates themselves and peers to promote and engage in team building and relationship building activities
