Thanks to its location under the big skies of the prairies, Lethbridge enjoys a climate of mild winters and warm, sun-soaked summers.The Role:Reporting to the Field Operations Support Section Staff Sergeant, the CPO Sergeant is responsible for the training and supervision of Level 1 Community Peace Officers assigned to the Lethbridge Police Service (Up to 14 positions). As part of overseeing the day to day operation of the CPO program, in this position you will lead, mentor, and coach Community Peace Officers. You will work alongside your employees in the community by monitoring and maintaining public safety through investigating complaints/disputes and taking appropriate action to render assistance and enforce the laws that are within the CPO authorities.In this role you will be expected to engage with the community and foster a number of collaborate relationships with stakeholders to maintain and enhance public awareness and strengthen our community relationships.This permanent full-time position falls under the protection of a collective agreement associated to the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 70 contract. CUPE works to improve wages and benefits, improve health and safety conditions, and make your workplace better.Your Professional Skillset and Experience:The successful applicant for this position will possess a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Community Peace Officer or in a role directly related to law enforcement such as conservation, bylaw, Sheriff, Police Officer, etc. At least two years of experience in a supervisory role is strongly preferred. Proven leadership, supervisory, and conflict resolution skills are essential for this position as are strong interpersonal skills including tact and diplomacy with a strong emphasis on customer service.This position requires a Community Peace Officer (Level 1) Appointment as well as an Alberta Class 5 Driver’s license and a valid First Aid and CPR training certificate. Other credentials such as a law enforcement diploma from a recognized institution, emergency vehicle operation training, or Commercial Vehicle Weight Enforcement training would be considered an asset.Please note: A CPO Level 1 Appointment requires no criminal record except where a pardon has been granted and no outstanding criminal charges/not subject of a criminal investigation is also required.The successful candidate is required to consent to a police security clearance, which includes the voluntary completion and submission of a personal disclosure form (lifestyle questionnaire), criminal and police records check, reference checks and truth verification through polygraph examination.Wage: $48.37 per hour |2022 RateHours: Shift Work- Morning and Afternoon Shifts Monday to Friday Average of 40 hours per week (Flexible/Compressed Work Week is available) Shift adjustments for evening and weekend work will be required as the position responsibilities dictateThe City of Lethbridge offers a competitive and flexible compensation package including a generous health care spending account and a defined benefit pension plan (LAPP).STEPS OF HIRING PROCESS
