Job Description

ResponsibilitiesThe Development Officer will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting prospective major donors in support of fundraising initiatives.Job DutiesCommunication/Reports:

  • Manage a portfolio of prospective donors, preparing research and implementing key actions needed to support a gift decision
  • Establish and maintain professional and productive work relationships with donors providing strategic advice and support as required
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of donor contact/visit activity
  • Provide regular updates on prospective donors/donor contact/activity to the Director of Development
Research:
  • Prepare information for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations
  • Assist in building and maintaining long-term relationships with external stakeholders associated with Lethbridge College and its various fundraising initiatives
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospective awards and major gift donors
  • Identify gift opportunities across Lethbridge College and prepare proposals for presentations to prospective donors
Confidentiality:
  • Perform duties in a manner that will earn the full confidence of the Director of Development
  • Assure discreet handling of all business dealings
Financial:
  • Raise funds to fund College capital projects, including departmental projects and to build Lethbridge College’s inventory
  • Responsible for achieving financial targets based on strategic timelines around campaigns
Student Awards & Scholarships:
  • Responsible for managing relationships with student award donors
  • Collaborate with donors and the Student Award and Financial Aid office in the creation and maintenance of student awards
  • Ensure student award donations are received in time for annual award cycles
  • Prepare annual donor award statements

  • Minimum of a diploma/degree in Business Communications or related discipline required; as well as, 3 – 5 years’ experience with donors and sponsor cultivation
  • Proven experience in major gift fundraising (>$10,000) and skilled in strategy development
  • Thorough knowledge of the college environment and academic structure preferred; combinations of post-secondary education and related work experience considered
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and commitment to work in a team environment; must be able to interact with donors and prospective donors in a professional and courteous manner
  • Experience in drafting proposals, briefings, contact notes, stewardship plans/letters and other correspondent for prospects and volunteers
  • Ability to work well under pressure and prioritize competing demands to effectively meet deadlines
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in decision provided by the Director of Development
  • Responsible for achieving portfolio goals
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with MS Excel is highly desired
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Development as required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge and Salesforce would be an asset
  • Current or past membership with AFP or CCAE would be an asset
