Job Description

Experienced Police Officer (One or More)Lethbridge Police ServiceThe City of Lethbridge (www.lethbridge.ca) serves a community of over 100,000 residents and is committed to delivering services in a way that earns the trust, respect and confidence of our community. Located just two hours south of Calgary and close to the Rocky Mountains and U.S. border, we are a family-oriented and culturally vibrant community. The Lethbridge Police Service is seeking one or more Experienced Police Officers.The City of Lethbridge proudly acknowledges that we are located at the heart of Siksikaitsitapi (Blackfoot) Territory, home of Kainai, Piikani, Siksika and Amskapi Piikani (Montana, USA) First Nations. Lethbridge is also located within the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III. We are home to just over 101,000 residents and two major post-secondary institutions - the University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge College. The City of Lethbridge recognizes the diversity of our community and is working to ensure programs, services, facilities, and employment opportunities are inclusive to all people.The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) is currently looking to fill one or more Experienced Officer positions. This competition is open immediately and closes May 19, 2023. To apply Experienced Officer eligible applicants must:

  • Be a current sworn police officer with a minimum of 2 years of policing experience with a Canadian federal, provincial, municipal or First Nations police service. (*Basic police training time is not included in the 2 year experience calculation), or an ex-officer who has been separated from their police service or agency for less than 2 years.
  • Have a minimum of Alberta Grade 12 or equivalent education (certificate required).
  • Have Proof of Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.
  • Must submit a driver’s abstract dated within six months of application, with no more than five (5) demerit points.
  • Not have a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted (proof of pardon required), nor have any criminal charges before the courts.
  • Have an exemplary record of service and performance history.
  • Special Constables and members of a police agency outside Canada are not eligible to enter the Experienced Officer Training Program.
Experienced officers will participate in the complete recruiting process and meet the standards set out by the Alberta Police Selection and Employment Manual and provincial guidelines for recruiting. ***NOTE the Alberta Communication Test (ACT), Alberta Police Cognitive Ability Test (APCAT) and First Aid are not required for this process.
  • Successful applicants may receive up to $5000 moving allowance with the submission of taxable receipts. (*Only applies to those moving from more than a 50 Km radius from Lethbridge)
  • May be hired at the rate of pay consistent with your complete years of experience, but no higher than the First-Class Constable rate of pay or the rank of Constable.
  • Front loading of Leave hours provided up to 120 hours.
Probationary Period, Specialized Positions, Pay Duties, Promotions and Annual Vacation Leave will be based on the current collective agreement between the City of Lethbridge and the Lethbridge Police Association.STEPS OF HIRING PROCESSAll components of the selection process will be administered, scored, evaluated and interpreted in a fair and uniform manner. The duration of the process should be approximately two to three months.

  • Successful completion of the APREP concurrent to Provincial standards, OR the PARE physical abilities test in a score of 4 minutes or less is a prerequisite for this position. APREP testing will be arranged and paid for by Lethbridge Police Service. PARE will be arranged and paid for by the applicant who will be reimbursed if hired.

  • Personal Disclosure Interview
    • After the application package is reviewed by the recruiting officer, competitive applicants will be contacted for a Personal Disclosure interview.
  • Behavioral Descriptive Interview
    • Given to candidates still competitive after Personal Disclosure interview.
    • Successful candidates will move onto the next stage of the process.
  • Integrity (truth verification Polygraph) and Psychometric testing (Psychological interview) will be scheduled and completed.
  • Security Clearance Check will be conducted.
  • Background check will be conducted.
  • Successful candidate(s) will be selected and offered the position.
Training
  • Successful applicants will be eligible to complete an accelerated training program that is approximately 5 weeks in length.
