Job Title Government Relations OfficerPosition DetailsThe University of Lethbridge (uLethbridge) is one of Canada’s top universities and research institutions. ulethbridge is located on traditional Blackfoot Confederacy territory. A people-first institution, the uLethbridge is made up of more than 8,900 students on campuses in Lethbridge and Calgary; 1,200 faculty and staff members, 47,000+ alumni and nearly 55 years of friends and community supporters.The Government Relations Officer supports the advancement of the goals and priorities of the University of Lethbridge with all levels of government. Reporting to the Executive Director of Communications, Marketing and Government Relations, the Government Relations Officer facilitates positive interactions between university leadership and elected and non-elected members of all levels of governments. Further, the Government Relations Officer assists in shaping and implementing government relations strategies, prepares briefing notes and position papers and organizes tours.The Government Relations Officer will:

  • assist in building relationships with elected and non-elected government officials at a municipal, provincial and federal level.
  • develop and implement targeted and general government relations strategies in consultation with senior executive, faculties and other university stakeholders.
  • conceptualize and implement communication strategies that link institutional research and teaching strengths with government priorities.
  • assist with senior administration’s interactions with government to ensure consistency and effectiveness of key messaging and to ensure a logical sequence of interactions for specific initiatives.
  • develop third-party advocacy relationships to increase credibility of institutional messaging.
  • ensure compliance of lobbying requirements including managing the U of L’s submission to the federal government’s lobbying registry.
