Your Opportunity:We are looking for a detail-oriented, organized Health Information Management Professional I for our Chinook Regional Hospital location. This role is responsible for coding and abstracting data from patient healthcare records including inpatient, emergency department, day surgery/medicine, urgent care and some outpatient clinic visits within AHS’ South Zone. The successful individual requires excellent skills in reviewing patient records and assigning diagnoses and procedure/intervention codes according to national and provincial standards. You are experienced in using a computerized abstracting system, computerized encoder, and electronic Folio reference. Additionally, you are resourceful and able to find information needed to code patient charts, and are aware of the importance of confidentiality, privacy laws, and handling vital information. Coding specialists work with physicians and other allied health professionals to validate and improve chart documentation. You are vital in maintaining the integrity of patients’ records including coding specific or new diagnoses, so that patients receive the most efficient, quality healthcare along their health journey. The data you manage is significant in providing consistent, accurate and timely data that is used for planning initiatives by caregivers and the patients’ healthcare team. A constant learner, you are willing to attend ongoing workshops on the most up-to-date technology, coding charts, disease processes, and information related to privacy legislation including the Health Information Act, and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
