Job Description

Job Title Library Student AssistantPosition DetailsLibrary Student Assistants support a variety of functions and services throughout the University Library. Duties may include, but are not limited to: assisting at services desk (circulation of materials), maintaining library collections (cleaning, shelving, shifting collections, etc.), basic data entry, technology support (e.g., Bridge Bucks, copying, printing, scanning, creative/productivity applications) and other general office duties.HOURS OF WORK:Shifts will coincide with regular Library hours as well as extended hours during peak times of the semester. https://www.ulethbridge.ca/lib/hoursSTARTING WAGE: $15.00 per hourPosition QualificationsAttributes among successful applicants include, but are not limited to:

  • Dedication to providing the best possible service and support to patrons
  • Good communication skills (oral and written)
  • Professional conduct whether working independently or in team
  • Attention to detail
Further knowledge and skills that are beneficial include:
  • Previous experience in a library environment (knowledge of Library of Congress Classification System) or customer/patron services
  • Proficiency in common creative (e.g., Adobe Photoshop) and productivity (e.g., Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office) applications
  • Knowledge of copying, printing, and scanning technologies—particularly those related to Bridge Bucks
  • Information literacy skills and knowledge of Library/University website
Hiring CriteriaThe Library is an equal opportunity employer and the supervisors responsible for hiring student assistants base their decisions on the following criteria:
  • Must be full or part time student (Lethbridge Campus)
  • Hours that need to be covered and the skills required to perform the duties assigned
NOTE: The Library’s immediate hiring needs are Monday and Wednesday (8 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and Thursday (12 to 4 p.m.)
